Bandits get in the win column

It was a night of firsts for the Buffalo Bandits on Friday.

The Bandits picked up their first win of the year as they defeated the Toronto Rock 12-10 in front of a crowd of 11,404.  It was their first win at home in nearly a calendar year (January 26, 2013), which ended a seven-game home losing streak.  It was also head coach Troy Cordingley's first win as Bandits coach, and first against his former team.

The Bandits rebounded from a lackluster first half that saw them trail Toronto 6-2 at halftime, and were held scoreless for the first 22 minutes of the game.

Both teams kept it close to start the second half with neither team scoring until Buffalo tallied four-straight goals in the final four minutes of the third to tie the game 6-6.

The Bandits began the fourth quarter with 3:51 remaining in a major penalty to Toronto's Craig England to give them an extended power play.  Aaron Wilson scored 0:31 into the final quarter, with the extra man, to give Buffalo their first lead of the game and the season.

Buffalo outscored Toronto 10-4 in the second half to clinch the victory.

Ryan Benesch led Buffalo with a five-point performance (3 goals, 2 assists) in his second game as a Bandit. Steve Priolo and Mark Steenhuis both scored twice in the win. Dhane Smith has four assists.

Anthony Cosmo was rock solid in net as he stopped 52 of the 62 shots he faced, including 28 saves in the second half.

The Bandits travel to Philadelphia on Sunday for their second meeting of the regular season with the Wings at 4 PM.
