Tavares leads Bandits to OT win in Philly

The Buffalo Bandits finished off a perfect weekend with a 12-11 overtime victory over the Philadelphia Wings on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center.

John Tavares capped off a five-goal performance by scoring the game winning goal 0:55 seconds into sudden death overtime. Tavares added two assists to give him his first game with seven or more points since 2012.

The Bandits jumped out to 8-4 lead by halftime as they looked to have carried some momentum from Friday’s win over Toronto.  Philadelphia clawed their way back during the second half, tying the game at 11-11 with 4:01 remaining in regulation.

Dhane Smith had the best game of his young career with nine points (3 goals, 6 assists). Ryan Benesch had his second five-point game of the weekend with a goal and four assists.  Anthony Cosmo backed up his stellar performance from Friday by stopping 43 of the 54 shots he faced.

With the back-to-back wins this weekend the Bandits improve to 2-1 on the season.  They will head out west to Colorado on Saturday for a 9 PM EST meeting with the Mammoth.  You can catch the game on ESPN 1520 on Saturday night.
