Columbus, OH (WGR550) -- The Buffalo Sabres snapped their five-game losing streak, and ended the Columbus Blue Jackets eight-game winning streak, with a 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Matt Ellis scored first to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. Ellis' third goal of the season was assisted by Henrik Tallinder and Ville Leino. The Blue Jackets answered later in the period thanks to Derek MacKenzie. The puck deflected off MacKenzie's skate and past Ryan Miller to even up the score 1-1. Ryan Murray and Mark Letestu were credited with assists on the score.
Christian Ehrhoff gave Buffalo its second lead of the night with a short handed goal. The rear guard slapped a shot at the net from just inside of the blue line, and Sergei Bobrovsky misplayed the puck as it clanked off of the goal post and in. Ehrhoff's goal came as Tyler Ennis sat with an elbowing minor.
Marcus Foligno added a short handed goal early in the second period that propelled Buffalo to a 3-1 lead. Bobrovsky was pulled in favor of Curtis McElhinney giving up a shaky goal. Bobrovsky stopped just 7 of Buffalo's 10 shots on goal before being pulled.
The blue and gold took the only two penalties of the second period, as Mike Weber was called for minors at different times in the stanza. Weber was called for high sticking early in the frame, and then was in the box for hooking. Buffalo was able to kill off both minors without much issue.
Steve Ott notched his seventh goal of the season to up the Buffalo lead to 4-1 only a couple of minutes into the third. Cody Hodgson and Christian Ehrhoff were given the assists on the goal. Mark Letestu quickly scored to bring Columbus back within two goal. The centerman followed up a rebound chance and flipped the puck over Ryan Miller for the goal. Cody Hodgson took advantage of an empty net at the other end to put Buffalo back up by three goals. Hodgson's 12th goal of the season made the score 5-2.

Nobody Cares... Call Us After They Get Their Number One Draft Picks
I pity the fool who spends any money in any way on this year's team. You are being ripped off. And I feel sorry for "interim" coach Nolan. By keeping the interim tag on him, the organization is clearly playing him the patsy. Especially since the team is now expected to "tank" next season as well as this season, according to morning show contributor jw. So, if everything goes perfectly, the way jw predicts it will, the very earliest this team can be a contender is the 2015-2016 season. Which except for jw, I have heard nobody else predict. No way is Mr. Nolan here when and if this team ever turns it around.
finally a win
well at this point of the season just to win a game for the fans feel good. And you saw the effort their; Once again miller made a strong case for himself why he in my book is a elite goalie in this league. Not to take anything from the rest of the players. because they came to play. And at the end of the day; thats what most of the sabres fans want to see. that know were down but we are going to take it to any team we face. But what was funny to me is the ones they are ways trying to get rid of are scoring goals. One thing is for sure is. count all the ot, sd, and 1 game loses. and thats shows ted has got our team moving forward for next year. and thats is going to go a long way on who makes this team and who dont.
Under Nolan from 4-15-1 under rolston. Nice improvement considering what he's working with. Get a couple of scorers on this team and it can be a playoff team.
Mister purrrrrfect don't take disagreements
Guess who? Enuff said.
32 games to go
Win 25 out of the last 32, the Sabres just might make the playoffs.
The Sabres SHOULD be on a 7 game winning streak. See what happens when goaltending holds a team to a two spot when you're scoring some goals? Rest my case.
It's pretty dead on here today after a win. Must have been a fluke.
How about that
The Sabres won a game against poor goaltending like theirs has been for the last five losses. To the finally a win commenter: Miller IS NOT ELITE... HE'S AVERAGE IN MY BOOK.
No fluke, just nobody paying much attention anymore. Bringing in Ted Nolan is merely sedation therapy for clueless fans: they aren't gonna win a Cup with him anyways. The new GM talks about his "veteren" players as if discussing trading Hasek, Mogilny and LaFontaine! Fine Miller is playing great, but they aren't trading him anyways. Stafford? Whatcha gonna get, a used shin guard? Ott? Half a bag of pucks. On top of that, if they don't tank NEXT season as well and trade all they have for McDavid, then why bother? In any event, it's still the Sabres so who cares?
half a brain knows this team will not be "contending" HA! in 2014-15...we are more than 2-3 yrs from this team being relevant.
Why is it dead?
Well everybody waiting for this season to be over. their no need to get upset, or calling out names. We want to see a change; And a better team on the ice point blank!
