Bandits beat Knighthawks to take first in East

The Buffalo Bandits defeated the Rochester Knighthawks 11-10 on Saturday night to give the defending NLL champions their first loss of the season and give Buffalo first place in the NLL East division.

The Bandits played one of their best games in years for the first 56 minutes, but nearly gave it away in the closing moments.  They had an 11-5 lead until the final four minutes of regulation when Rochester scored five-straight goals to pull within one. That forced Buffalo to cling to the lead for the final 19 seconds to perserve the win. The Knighthawks outscored Buffalo 7-1 in the fourth

Before that point the Bandits dominated the game at both ends of the floor.  The defense and goalie Anthiny Cosmo stymied the high powered Rochester offense.  Cosmo finished the game with 46 saves on 56 shots as he looked the best as he's ever been in a Bandit uniform.

John Tavares led the Bandits with four goals as he returned to the lineup after missing last week's game in Colorado.  Ryan Benesch was held to no goals for the first time as a Bandit but still led the team with six assists. Hamburg-native, Joe Resetarits, recorded his first career hat trick.

Buffalo chased Rochester starting goalie and Canisius product, Matt Vinc, after three quarters.  Vinc gave up 10 goals on 35 shots, including four third quarter goals on just eight shots.

The win was the Bandits' fourth-straight after losing their season opener.  They are home again next Saturday to host Toronto.
