Report: Bills' Manuel has 2nd knee surgery

(WGR 550) -- The Buffalo Bills had high hopes for their rookie quarterback EJ Manuel in 2013. Three knee injuries later, they only got a little over half of the season to evaluate their young signal caller.

Appearing in New Jersey at the site of media availability during Super Bowl week, Manuel fielded some questions from reporters. According to Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News, the Bills quarterback confirmed that he had minor surgery to repair a left knee sprain suffered in Week 15 against Jacksonville.

The injury kept Manuel from starting each of the team's final two contests and brought his 'missed starts' total up to six for the season. This is the second procedure Manuel has had done on his left knee in the past six months, after an August procedure to repair a torn meniscus.

In fact the ailment that kept him out the most games in 2013, the LCL sprain to his right knee, is the only time one of Manuel's knee injuries did not result in surgery. The rookie missed four games after suffering it against Cleveland in Week Five.

Manuel is currently rehabbing, according to Skurski, and plans to wear a knee brace moving forward. With the surgery occurring in January, Manuel should have enough time to be ready for the start of off-season workouts.
