Bills name Pepper Johnson, Fred Pagac assistants

(WGR 550) -- After Mike Pettine left for Cleveland and took many assistant coaches with him, the Buffalo Bills, head coach Doug Marrone and new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz have started to fill in the blanks.

On Friday night, the Bills announced the hiring of Pepper Johnson as their defensive line coach and Fred Pagac as their linebackers coach. Both Johnson and Pagac are coming from extended tenures with their previous team.

Johnson comes to the Bills after serving as the defensive line coach in New England for the past eight seasons and being an assistant coach on Bill Belichick's staff for the past 14 seasons total.

Pagac has spent each of the past eight years with the Vikings, seven of which as Minnesota's linebackers coach. The coach was the Vikings' defensive coordinator for the 2011 season before returning to his original role as linebackers coach.

With the hirings, the Bills' defensive staff now have replaced the positions left vacant after Pettine, Jim O'Neil and Anthony Weaver all went to Cleveland to serve on the Browns' staff.
