Despite another solid effort by Jhonas Enroth, he’s still left looking for his second win of the season as the Sabres fell to the Senators 3-2 Thursday night from the Canadian Tire Centre.
After after a scoreless first period that saw little action, the pace picked up quickly in the second as Erik Karlsson’s goal three minutes into the second period put the Senators on the board first. Karlsson beat Enroth glove side from the circle for his 15th of the season.
Much like the second, Ottawa wasted no time getting on the board as Jason Spezza made a crisp pass to Milan Michalek on an odd-man rush, and Michalek put it away to make it a 2-0 Senators lead just 10 seconds into the third. Buffalo began to show some offensive life later on in the final frame, as they were able to draw a couple penalties, and although they didn’t score, they were able to move the puck into Ottawa’s zone much more consistently than in the first two periods. Midway through the third, Drew Stafford set up Tyler Ennis for Ennis’s 13th of the year, and it cut the lead in half. Minutes later, Stafford netted a goal of his own to tie it up at 2 – his 7th goal in his last 11 games.
After the goal though, it looked like the Blue and Gold were playing not to lose, as Ottawa was constantly in Sabre territory, peppering Enroth with pucks, and with 20.9 seconds left, Michalek made Buffalo pay for it with his second goal of the night to give the Senators a 3-2 victory.
The Sabres head into the Olympic break sporting a 15-34-8 record, good for 38 points which is dead last in the NHL. Their next game isn’t until February 25th, as they host the Carolina Hurricanes from the First Niagara Center.

Plays Like One of the Jhonas Brothers
Spare me the pity for poor Jhonas Enroth. They should change his name to "One More" because how many ever his team scores...he's giving up one more. You fight back from 2-0 in the third, down to the last 30 seconds? Whiff. You score 4 at home? I'll give up five. You get me two, I'll let in three. Check the record this year. It's unbelievable. Yes, he has a horrid defense in front of him. Putrid. McBain and Weber should be castrated the way they play. And what the H-E-Double hockey stix are they doing playing together in the first place, in the last minute of a tie game no less? Hey, Ted...if you're coaching for your job you may want to look for a house in Latvia while your out that way the next few weeks. But back to the original point; they have a tag for guys like Enroth....just good enough to get you beat.
It got a little scary there for a bit...
but fortunately we were able to grab those 0 points that we needed so desperately!
hey miller wasn't in net.
So did they win did they. so are we going to call jhonas a bum too. Oh i for got he will be trade too. for lol.
Any trades yet for Buffalo???...live from my Armchair
Trades are being made out there per TSN CA. What are we waiting for? Clock is ticking towards the Olympic roster freeze. Coffee is on!!! Don't be Darcy Mister Murray.
You mean the Senators? They won the game.
Not sure you can say Enroth had a solid game. The Sabres score one, he lets in two, they score two he lets in three, we score three he lets in four etc etc etc. not a number one goalie.
Both these goaltenders are overated.Man, stop the puck!
Looking at the people listed
Who is Drew Safford? Miller to where today by 3PM???
What trades and Miller???
It's looking like business as usual to me with deafening silence. Murray is another phony. Enough said.
ok whose next hackett
Well i guess they call they will be calling him up. So the other team can take a 100 shots at him too. And he will be our next bum who got to go. for lol.
