Buffalo Business Report - Friday, February 7th 2014



The AAA reports local gas prices at week's end are at an average of $3.63 for a gallon of unleaded.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that construction on a new $10.2 million hotel in downtown Niagara Falls has begun.  A 110 room, Wingate by Wyndham Hotel will be built at 333 Rainbow Boulevard.  The project will create 15 new full-time permanent hotel jobs and an estimated additional 20 retail/restaurant industry jobs.

GEICO continues a hiring blitz at its CrossPoint Business Park operations center.  The company plans to bring on 750 new employees in 2014.  It currently employs 2,750 people in the region.

The Villages of Orleans Health & Rehabilitation Center has been acquired for $7.8 million dollars.  Principals of Comprehensive Healthcare Management Services LLC will eventually operate The Villages under Comprehensive at Orleans LLC.

For a second consecutive year, JD Power has ranked AT&T #1 for customer service in the wireless industry.
