Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) -- Prior to the Olympic deadline, the Buffalo Sabres placed Linus Omark on waivers with the intention of assigning the Swedish forward to Rochester. However, Omark had other plans.
According to the Buffalo News, Omark has failed to report to the Sabres AHL affiliate. In 13 games with the Sabres, Omark has no goals and just two assists. He has also been a healthy scratch in the Sabres last few games prior to the Olympics.
Omark was acquired from Edmonton for a conditional sixth-round draft pick shortly before the Christmas trade freeze. The 27-year-old spent 29 games with the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate this season, where he put up 14 goals and 29 points.
this is a headache that the team dosen't need. he wasn't playing anyway so part ways. Because they know their are not going to get nothing for him. If they do try to trade him. If he don't want to play with the amerks, then he don't want to play for the sabres. He has no goals and two points. their is nothing to lose. the sabres got bigger problems than changeing his diapers.
the useless player.
Oh, we're talking about Omark and not Leino
From the middle stat line, I thought we were talking about Leino. Sucks that this kid gets waived, and Leino gets a free pass onto one of the top lines. I thought Omark had more upside than Leino. Let's make sure we don't keep too much talenton the team, to lock up the #1 pick.
That's funny...he failed to report to Buffalo as well.
Seems to be a problem with a lot of players on the Sabres.
That speaks volumes for his attitude to try and stay with the team. My guess is that he is headed back to Europe to play the rest of his career out in Sweden. He obviously does not want to put the effort in to stay in the NHL.
and i was just about to buy his jersey
Lets get this straight sabres right now.
He first of all we are dealing with another young player. Ted and Tim have been saying this from day one. some of these kids need a kick in the behide. But they didn't do that, they put you with the sabres to see what you needed to work on to make you ready to play with the pros. If omark can't see after 13 games that he was not ready for this level. And you don't want to report to the amerks to learn. where dose that leave you. Nothing that where. Instead of agreeing with the coaches who are their for you. You turn your back And let what they are telling you go through one ear and out to the other. Good luck with that attitude it won't get you far in hockey. And yes we are talking about leino and others too. If you not going to do what it takes to stay on this team. then they will be gone too. Thats why the players are not giving their all because either they don't want to be here or they know that they won't be here. The sabres need at this point every thing. They need a goalee, right wingers, Left wingers, centermans, defenseman and so on on. because tim, pat, and ted. Are not going to put that mess on the ice for next years team. And you can bet on that. So if you will not follow orders, But thats the way you get fired. And what other team is going to want to put up with that mess. Answer nobody. Because when miller is gone we don't have no one to replace him at all period. So we will be seeing a completely new team. go for it any thing is better than this mess.
NBD!Just cut this guy!we won't owe Oilers SQUAT!
I don't blame him
There are other players on this Joke that should have been waived over him. What a Joke!
the guy has skill that most of are players dont have.there are players out there that other teams give up on and revive their careers elsewhere look at turris with ottawa nobody wanted him last season and now he is a top six forward with them tlusty another one nobody wanted him either and he had over 20 g last season.lets keep scott ellis flynn ect. and not take any chances no wonder we suck
Good thing we picked up that scout from Edmonton
Sarcasm. I must say the Pat L. era certainly hasn't had a good start: Lost Corey Tropp, the NHL denies Grigorenko's conditional development assignment to the Amerks, we hire some scout from Edmonton and pick up Linus, and now this happens.
Another Pat LaFontaine Mistake
If Darcy made these moves he would be crucified.
Then why did you take him in the first place!! This guy is getting screwed by the Sabres. Should not have taken him then. Sabres are wasting my time. Almost all of the Sabres should go to Rochester. Between the Sabres and the Bills will we ever get anything right?
What a baby
Go back to Sweden, ya big baby
Wake me up when the Sabres sign some real hockey players.
Oh my...Omark. Don't let the door hit you in the bum on the way back to Sweedan.
And to think
This guy had the audacity to wear Colin Patterson's number.
Linus Needs His Blanket
Yes, I know it's pronounced lee-nus, which rhymes with...
he has potential
He was a developing player in Edmonton. He still is. He didn't play during the lockout season last year so his game is off. He had decent stats with the oilers. Not great, but it was a start. Give Omark 2 more years in the Ahl and call him up a fewtimes. Maybe by then the sabres will suck less and he will do good. If he has a good team to play with, he will be a good 3rd line foward.
Off to a flying start
Is this the type of scouting and player acquisition we're going to see with the new regime? I love Pat but this is not making me feel good about how he's going to use our collection of draft picks.
If a player has talent, then he can make a case for refusing an assignment to the minors. But if he has talent then he shouldn't be sent down, right? Especially on a dead-last place team! Using that logic, refusing a demotion to the minors amounts to whining. I saw little from Linus that separated him from the other bottom 6 forwards on the Sabres. Go on Linus....stomp your feet and go back to Sweden.
I'm not trying to pick an argument, but the whole reason why the Oilers traded him was because he said at the time he would rather play in his native country (Sweden) than in the minor leagues of the U.S. at the age of 26. He was going to move back to Sweden in December, before the Oilers dumped him on the Sabres. I believe the Sabres sent him down to give him more ice time during the Olympics, but he apparently missed the memo or just doesn't feel that he's being given a chance to show what he can do with the offensively challenged linemates Nolan has put him with in most games. He finally played with Ennis and Stafford... the line was the best on the ice that night. He's just doing the same thing here that he did in Edmonton... while I don't agree with his actions, I can't say that it's unexpected. Sad thing is he probably would have been given a better chance after Murray moves out some parts at the deadline. For what it's worth, his agent was quoted as saying that he may still report to Rochester.
Cut your losses.........
and trade this guy for a broken stick or torn puck bag or something like that.
Re: he has potential...
Had. HAD potential. At the age of 27, any player in any professional sport has either realized their potential or never will. That's all. 27, sorry but his career is done.
If he had talent.
See if he had talent. He would know that when you Father or Mother told you to do something; then you should do it. I know stop crying. Oh i never going to play hockey again. No young man. Thats is not we are saying. What we want you to know is. Just report to the amerks. because if you don't; you only got your self to blame. My name is ruff buff. Now are you going to report or not. Lets go buffalo sabres.
