Pond Hockey Success

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN/WGR) - The 7th annual Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament ended Saturday after two days of outdoor hockey competition featuring about 800 players in various divisions.

The tournament, previously held on the water inside Erie Basin Marina, was held on refrigerated rinks at the Riverworks site on Ganson Street.  The refrigerated rinks saved the event as temperatures were in the mid 30's and higher with rain on Friday.

WGR SportsRadio 550 fielded a team in the two day tournament in which teams played a four-on-four format, absent a goalie. Participants this year included hundreds of local and regional hockey players, with others travelling from as far away as Massachusetts, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to compete.

Here are the winners in the various divisions:

  • Elite Division: Blue Heron
  • Advanced Over 21 Division: BuffaloWit.com
  • Intermediate Over 21 Division: Old Macks
  • Recreational Over 21 Division: Jack FM
  • Novice Over 21 Division: Dr. Parks
  • Advanced Over 30 Division: Reggans
  • Intermediate Over 30 Division: Pale Ales
  • Novice Over 30 Division: Try-It Distributing
  • Intermediate Over 40 Division: Bison Hockey Sticks
  • Novice Over 40 Division: Cricket
  • Women’s Division: Performance Solutions

If report of Toronto bid being maxed out at $1.2 billion is true, what would you think?
Toronto is dead. The Buffalo Bills are here to stay!!!!
I'd still be guarded. What if a bidder comes out of nowhere?
