Miller and Ott Traded to St. Louis

The Sabres took a big step in writing their next chapter on Friday, dealing Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott to the St. Louis Blues for goaltender Jaroslav Halak, right wing Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier and two draft picks.

The trade was announced just prior to Friday's home against the San Jose Sharks. Both players were pulled off the ice during warmups, igniting a flurry of speculation that was confirmed moments later by an official announcement from both the Sabres and Blues. Both players, set to head into unrestricted free agency had seen their names attached to trade rumors for months.

Miller leaves Buffalo as the team's all-time leader in wins with 284 and his 28 shutouts rank second only to Dominik Hasek. He became the Sabres' full-time starter in net during the 2005-06 season, helping lead the team to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals and a Presidents' Trophy in 2006-07.

Ott arrived in Buffalo on July 2, 2012 as part of a trade that also landed Adam Pardy in exchange for Derek Roy. He was named co-captain of the team this past October and became the Sabres' lone captain following the trade of Thomas Vanek.
