Blackhawks Outlast Sabres 2-1

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each contributed a goal in the Blackhawks' 2-1 win over the Sabres at First Niagara Center on Sunday. Cory Conacher picked up an assist in his Buffalo debut.

Playing in front of a large cheering section decked out in red #88 sweaters, Kane wasted little time in finding the net. Kane roofed a shot over Jhonas Enroth's glove just 3:12 into the first period for the 1-0 Chicago lead. The Blackhawks forward danced around Christian Ehrhoff and Chad Ruhwedel before beating Enroth cleanly from the slot.

Drew Stafford's 11th of the season made it 1-1 about six minutes later. Stafford put the puck into an open net after Corey Crawford took himself out of position trying to stop a wide-open Conacher. The recently-acquired Sabres forward put a move on Crawford and slid a pass toward the crease, where Stafford jammed it home.

Toews put Chicago back in front early in the third with his 25th. The Blackhawks captain finished off a 3-on-2 break by popping a Brandon Saad pass into the Buffalo net for the 2-1 lead. Both teams had scoring chances in the final period, but Andrew Shaw and Kane both rattled shots off the post during the same Blackhawks power play. Marcus Foligno rang one off the pipe later in the period for Buffalo.

The Sabres stay at home for their next game on Tuesday against the Nashville Predators at 7 p.m. Hear the play-by-play on WGR 550 and the Buffalo Sabres Radio Network.

What do you think about the Alonso for McCoy trade?
Love it. We've added an elite player to the offense.
I'm not happy. Too much money for a RB and I hate losing Alonso.
