Weber, Predators Shut Down Sabres 4-1
Shea Weber recorded a goal and an assist, helping the Predators defeat the Sabres at First Niagara Center on Tuesday 4-1. Paul Gaustad added an empty-netter for Nashville in the win.
Playing in his 500th NHL game, Drew Stafford opened the scoring with an early power play goal, collecting a Cody Hodgson rebound and scooping it past Nashville goaltender Carter Hutton. The goal marked Stafford's 14th point in his last 15 games. The Predators tied it later in the period with Cory Conacher in the Buffalo box for interference. A Weber shot glanced off Nick Spaling's skate and into the Buffalo net, making it 1-1.
Weber gave Nashville the lead early in the second period, receiving a drop pass from Colin Wilson and snapping the puck past Enroth. Craig Smith's 20th of the year put the Predators up 3-1 at 7:51 of the second, a slapshot that found its way through Enroth's five-hole. Gaustad provided the late empty net goal in his former home arena, sealing the 4-1 Nashville win.
The loss sends Buffalo to its third straight defeat. The Sabres look to turn things around on Thursday when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes for a 7 p.m. start. Catch the play-by-play on WGR 550 and the Buffalo Sabres Radio Network.
