Sabre forward Tim Connolly is out for the rest of the season. General Manager Darcy Regier broke the news on WGR 550 with the Bulldog Friday afternoon. Connolly was going to miss the Maple Leaf game as his nagging hip injury has not really improved. He will have surgery on Monday and should be ready to go by next fall. Connolly has not played since March 10th and was trying to finish out the season without under-going surgery for his injury but the pain became unbearable.
Despite missing 17games with a bone spur and torn labrum in his hip, Connolly is 6th on the team in scoring with 7 goals and 33 assists. He will be missed on the power play where his creativity opens up the ice for the unit.
Teppo Numminen and Nathan Paetsch both participated in the team's morning skate on a limited basis. Numminen went through off-ice testing normally done in training camp yesterday. Neither defensemen will be available to play tonight.
Jason Pominville was back on the practice ice after taking a day off. Pominville took a shot to the foot during Wednesday night's win over Tampa Bay. He just needed a day to rest.
The Maple Leafs have their own injury concerns. Mats Sundin is not expected to play at all this weekend with a lingering groin injury. Nik Antropov is out while he recovers from a knee injury. Carlo Colaiacovo is out for 4-to-6 weeks with a groin injury.
