Kelso: Draft Exciting for Fans, Draining for GMs

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The NFL Draft begins tonight, and one analyst says while it's an exciting night for fans, it can become draining for general managers.

"It creates great excitement for the fan base," says Bills color commentator Mark Kelso. "That's exactly what the NFL wanted to do, and they've accomplished their goal because people are excited about it. It's in prime time and fans can watch each team go on the clock." Kelso says the NFL markets the league and players well, and "it's fun to think which player could be the face of the franchise for several years."

But it's not so exciting for general managers, who will be making their picks over three days and seven rounds. "Overanalyzation is what it is," believes Kelso. "They've analyzed these kids since middle school. They know what they ate five years ago. They're still going to analyze their pick until it's time to make that selection." Kelso admits it's stressful for the organizations because they will invest millions of dollars into that player.

Kelso admits even the most ardent draft pundit will get tired of talking about players on their minds the past few months by the time the final pick is made Saturday.
