Buffalo, NY (WBEN) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says that he thinks a new owner for the Buffalo Bills would want, even need a new stadium for the team. Officially Erie County hasn't signed on to that, but the folks who want land options to develop one of their own on the outer harbor say they are launching a new push, using Goodell's statement as ammo.
"The next football stadium, if the NFL is interested, has to be the best one," says George Hasiotis of the Greater Buffalo Sports and Entertainment Complex. "They're not interested in going backwards or retrofitting. It's very important our community finally recognize that and move on." Hasiotis emphasizes he is not connected with the NFL or the Bills in any way.
Hasiotis says Goodell is implying all parties involved don't have much time. "There are also specificiations about where you put something like this. You can't make it a cheap facility, you can't make it suburban or in the middle of nowhere, it's not something they're interested in."
Hasiotis says he's been working with the city at a faster pace because he knew this would become an urgent matter soon.
Hasiosits says the stadium would include a conference center, hotel and the North American Museum of Sport and Culture.
The Common Council is on board, but the state and the Bills have declined so far.
