Islanders to Retain 2014 1st Round Pick



In a move many expected, the Islanders made it official today, announcing that they will retain their 2014 draft selection (5th overall). The decision means their 2015 pick will be transferred to the Buffalo Sabres as part of the Thomas Vanek trade last October. The Islanders also making a roster move today, signing goalie Jaroslav Halak to a 4 year, $18 million deal.

According to NHL Central Scouting, here are the Top 5 2014 prospects:
1   Bennett, Samuel Center Kingston OHL
2   Ekblad, Aaron Defenseman Barrie OHL
3   Reinhart, Sam Center Kootenay WHL
4   Draisaitl, Leon Left Wing Prince Albert WHL
5   Dal Colle, Michael Left Wing Oshawa OHL
