World Cup: Portugal scores with seconds left; ties USA 2-2

Arena Amazonia, Manaus, Brazil (WGR-550) - Just as the United States was about to punch their ticket to the round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup, Varela Varela netted in injury time to keep Portugal's qualification hopes alive, as they were able to salvage 2-2 draw Sunday evening in Brazil.

Down 1-0 for nearly 60 minutes, the U.S. rallied in the second half, as Jermaine Jones connected from outside the box to the bottom right corner of the net following a corner kick. Clint Dempsey, playing with a broken nose, then notched a go-ahead goal in the 81st minute to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead.

Nani netted the other Portugal goal.

The United States next plays Thursday at noon against Germany. A United States win OR draw automatically puts them in the round of 16.

What would you think of Dan Bylsma as Sabres head coach?
I'd be very happy. He won a Cup and always made the playoffs.
I wouldn't be happy. His Penguins teams should've won more in the playoffs.
