Sabres Murray is ready to go and ready to trade

Philadelphia, PA (WGR 550)  -- Tim Murray is tired of waiting and wants to start drafting and trading players. The Sabres GM spoke this morning and said, “Yes, I’m tired of it. We’re ready, I hope we’re not over prepared, but we’ve talked a lot about it, so whatever happens, I have confidence our guys are ready to execute.”
Murray has been burning up the phones trying to make trades and so far it hasn’t generated anything. Things could get going when the teams hit the floor and Murray said, “I hope it does, but I have a couple of really complicated ideas, so I don’t know if I can execute them in an hour, but we’ve got good people here so we’ll get it done if something happens.”
The fact that teams aren’t trading has frustrated the Sabres GM, “The amount of talking that we’ve done in the last three weeks, for it to come down to this and look like that we may not do anything is, I don’t know if it’s disappointing or if it’s just, I mean I shouldn’t be surprised, I’ve been around this a long time, but it’s quiet.”
Buffalo hasn’t traded back into the first round, but Murray knew all along that wouldn’t be done yet, “The first rounder I knew, that will happen on the floor, I assume I’ll get some people to talk to me about that on the floor.”
As far as trading current players Murray said, “I’m not shopping our players and truthfully I have gotten some calls on a couple of our players and I just said I’ll listen. I’m not going to be extremely aggressive in trying to trade young guys that we feel we can move forward with, but in saying that I have to listen.”
Murray is also looking for a few players to lead the way. He said, “I’ve tried to trade for a few veteran players that will either help our culture or bring some skill to our lineup, so that is right now going nowhere.”
This season you can talk to agents about free agent before the July 1st signing day. Murray has been busy with that too, “I was meeting with agents from noon until seven yesterday, so I’m doing what everybody else is doing, but it’s just talking in generalities.”
Both Steve Ott and Matt Moulson said before they were traded that they wouldn’t mind moving forward in Buffalo. Murray has been in touch, “I have talked to both their agents, yes.”
Murray also spoke about the proposed changes to the Draft Lottery. I’ll post those comments a little later.
