Moulson comes back to Buffalo

He's back. Matt Moulson is a Buffalo Sabre once again.

Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports Moulson has agreed to a 5-year, $25 million contract to come back to Buffalo.

In 44 games with Buffalo last season, he notched 29 points in 44 games before heading to the Minnesota Wild in a trade at the deadline.

More details to come.

I guess since they changed the draft format....the Sabres are not going to tank this season..
07/01/2014 2:20PM
welcome back matty.
now slap the "C" on him and work out a long term deal.
07/01/2014 2:21PM
Draft did not change enough
If we finish last next year, we would get no worse than 2nd pick. But, can you really assume that just one guy will turn a team? I'd rather compete now.
07/01/2014 2:24PM
RE: Well...
Gimme a break tool, the team ISNT going to or HASNT tanked. Get a grip and watch. Do you think ANY team coached by Ted Nolan would allow such an act? youre obviously a troll so go away.

Moulson returns
Given the first 3 signings today this move rates 5 stars
07/01/2014 2:28PM
Great signing more than enough talent to start to compete!
very happy with today
07/01/2014 2:30PM
It's a start
Moulson is a great moved, especially because he wanted to come back. Not sure about the McCormick move (it's a body), and John Scott is gone. Gionta with Samson Reinhart will be awesome!
07/01/2014 2:33PM
Not going to change their fate too much but good guys for the young guy to learn from now go get Otter and call it a day!!!!! Hit them hard and often, Lose 3-2 this year win 4-2 year after!!!!
07/01/2014 2:34PM
I did not see this one coming. Tim Murray is the man!
07/01/2014 2:49PM
Live from My Armchair...hard to believe
Interesting. Right Jeremy? These moves so far might have me thinking playoffs while you guys at the station weep. Gotta love it. Add Ott...it will be playoffs. Tank this 'GR!!! No more McDavid talk. Start weeping boys!!! This team AIN'T tanking. This 12 pack is going down good today.
07/01/2014 2:53PM
Jeremy, you have been quiet on Twitter...
I'm glad you've calmed down. Tim is doing exactly what he said he would do. Now, whether it works or not is something different. However, things are happening and as WGR is fond of telling fans, "Stop Overreacting!" Life will be fine without Christian Ehrhoff.
07/01/2014 2:53PM
Hope McCormick is a two way contract
I'm not for that move one bit. He belongs in the minors.
07/01/2014 2:58PM
Re: Live from My Armchair...hard to believe
Nothing the Sabres have done is anything more than window-dressing. Moulson's signing looks nice except that nobody will be there to feed him, so his numbers will be kinda "eh". Gionta is 35 and $ucked in Montreal so nothing there. Gorges is 29 and could be interesting except that the team isn't going anywhere. All these signings look neat, but really amount to nothing more than fodder to get the numbskull fans through the next season or two. Sorry, but Ted Nolan is here to placate people who will cheer him on even as he loses nearly as much as last year.
07/01/2014 3:00PM
Where is the tracker that shows all the moves from the day so far? Did I miss it?
07/01/2014 3:08PM
1st Line
How does a #1 line of Gionta, Moulson & Reinhart sound, with Gionta wearing the "C"
07/01/2014 3:15PM
Re: Where?
The boys at WGR are peeowed of todays moves. Jeremy is taking this hard enough and may have to blow off the show in the morning calling off. Howard is in shock after his write up the other day. Both wanted a premium tank job this coming season. I didn't. Peters was talking dumb again today already trading Moulson. What a doopa yash.
07/01/2014 3:20PM
How can Shoop and Bulldog even count Kaleta as being on this team. Not gonna happen Kaleta is not an NHL player.
07/01/2014 3:28PM
You really listen to those two? I stopped two years ago. They both bring out the finest dose of idiocy.
07/01/2014 3:33PM
Please Tim
07/01/2014 3:46PM
I agree with the one guy on here...
The boys on WGR (especially the morning dopes) must not be happy today. Honestly, I have my doubts this team will be the worst next year, in fact they seem ready to make some sort of push if the young guys take a step. Problem is still between the pipes, so we may be safe. But the offense has been hugely upgraded this off-season. Hey, they had to spend money to get to the floor - what do you guys expect? Signing 25 Cody McCormick's? The simple fact is this team will be better than last year, maybe significantly.
07/01/2014 3:49PM
Look at the signings today...
Murray's grab of Gionta and Moulson along with Gorges looks like the biggest grab of any team. Stastny to the Blues was nice, but the rest was blah. Murray is doing a heck of a job.
07/01/2014 4:03PM
This move is OK, but I'm not thrilled.
The Gionta/Gorges moves were better. Moulson is a fill-in with modest scoring ability. Ott is the guy they really should be after, but the Flyers want him badly.
07/01/2014 4:05PM
Gotta love the way this guy thinks, talks and walks. No nonsense, get-it-done sort of guy who doesn't blow smoke. As far as I am concerned...give him the keys to the rest of the organization
07/01/2014 4:08PM
On the Jeremy comments
He may just quit his job after todays signings. Very silent on the twitter feed.
07/01/2014 4:20PM
A HUGE dupa!!
07/01/2014 4:22PM
Another joker not impressed by the sound of him on 'GR. He must miss Regeir.
07/01/2014 4:26PM
Dumbell Sabres Fans
To say these overpriced signings of Moulson and Ott along Gorges, who is NOT BETTER than Erhoff, are good by Murray is a big joke. Murray is picking up old junk. McCormick-give me a break!!! Ted Nolan is not a good coach and lucked out when he was with the Sabres the first time. I know Buffalo loves the blue collar moniker, but that doesn't mean you should accept Murray's moves to spend money and get junk. Ott would be another waste of $$$.
07/01/2014 4:30PM
Murray a genius???
Shortstuff Gionta for $4.25 million. Give me a break!!
07/01/2014 4:33PM
Look at all the doehards that think Gionta Meszaros and Moulson are going to pull this team to 29th instead of 30th. Gionta and Meszaros are washed up and just trying to get a couple more bucks from their tired careers. And all these fool fans are thumping their chests. What a bunch f schoolboys. What a monumental wasteof cash. I wouldn't trade all 3 of those used to be's for Ehrhoiff. This is actually kinda interesting. Something Buffalo hasn't been in a decade. Good luck with that, lol.
07/01/2014 4:37PM
I am very surprised that Sabre like these signings.
For any good team in the league, this would be very questionable. Murray spends $20,000,000 and doesn't have a single impact player. Think about that, all that CAP space and some of these guys would clear waivers. I am very serious when I say that.
07/01/2014 4:46PM
$4,000,000 for Gionta and Meszaros each? Wow, I almost choked, OMG, good luck with that!
I actually feel sorry for the franchise now. No problem, when this blows up further, yes it could get worse, Murray will just leave town and go on with his life. Buffalo will wait another 5 years for some success.I am shocked at the money he is wasting. None of these guys, barring Moulson, is sought after at all, total retreads, 18goals and 22 pts respectively. Sorry to say this, but it's kinda sad.
07/01/2014 5:06PM
Vanek trade
OK, just trying to see if I got this straight. We trade Vanek for Moulson, NYI 1st and 2nd round pick in 2015. We trade Moulson and McCormack to the Wild for Torrey Mitchell, 2014 2nd round pick and 2016 2nd round pick. We trade the 2016 Wild pick to Montreal for Josh Gorges. We sign Moulson and McCormack back from the Wild. So we gave up Vanek and got back NYI Ist and 2nd 2015 picks, Matt Moulson, Torrey Mitchell, Josh Gorges and the 49th overall pick in 2014 Vaclav Karabacek (Wild 2nd rounder) Nice return.
07/01/2014 5:13PM
Don't Stop Now Tim....
Decent day so far...Not a big fan of Foligno (3rd or 4th line player) or McCormick...We NEED goal scorers. Moulson and Gionta are a great start however, not enough G_O_A_L scorers on the roster...
07/01/2014 6:38PM
Please Wake Up
All these people that think goal scorers 1. grown on tree's and 2. would come here now are crazy. You pay more money per year on short term contracts. I think Tim is looking for guys that can come in here, play top line minutes, get some points and then trade at the deadline for more parts. I think it was mission accomplished.
07/01/2014 7:01PM
From my Armchair
A return to the playoffs is what I'm expecting.
07/01/2014 7:01PM
Schopp loves Ana1.....
07/01/2014 7:04PM
@Please Wake Up
You're right. Problem here is that over half of the commenters are either kids in high school or are Bills fans who are programmed to think "Lose". The guys Murray picked up are there to help the young guys and improve the atmosphere of the team. Not to win the President's Trophy. Good job Murray.
07/01/2014 7:06PM
its still a tank....
now it just looks a little bit more like they tried. throw some overpaid veterans at the end of their careers on a team that finished dead last and you get last place, again..remember they could have won 10 more games last season and still finished at the bottom..
07/01/2014 8:28PM
Come out, Schopp
Time to come out of the closet, Mike. Let me give your but a little joy! Come "down" to Allen Town you silly little freak!
07/01/2014 9:58PM
Bob Corkum
Corkum is available you nut jobs!!! Why do the Leafs ALWAYS stink? Curse of Harold Ballard and the child molesters at Maple Leaf Gardens. Google it!! They all loved little boys!
07/01/2014 10:13PM
USA Lost to Belgium
I bet my grandfather wishes the Belgians put up this good a fight against the Nazis so he didn't have to bail them out, losing an eye in the process. Now, all the American players can go back to San Fran, their bath houses, and all of their buggerteams with the name "United" embedded so as to sound consequential. What a weak sport. Rather watch golf and listen to Bulldog's raspy voice.
07/02/2014 10:53AM
Hey l o ser
How many more 12 packs did you have to pick up to get you through to that 10:13 post dupa yash? You worthless. workless, republican voting, tea party loving, white trash drunkard. Who's money are you robbing to comment on the internet all day and night?
07/02/2014 12:09PM
I'd be really shocked. I'd be doing cartwheels in my yard with my broken leg.
07/02/2014 12:58PM
Mouslon would make a great....
CAPTAIN for this team. Get a C on his sweater now.
07/02/2014 1:21PM
SO... lemme get this straight... MONTREAL experiences a renaissance and then just lets Jeff GOURGEOUS and WEEBLE GIONTA just walk out the door? BOSTON with injuries all over their defense last year JUST lets Metsaros walk out the door? MINNESOTA WHO'S WITHIN INCHES of beating Chicago just lets Moulson walk out the door? And the last piece of "GARBAGE" picked up BY WALMART was none other than "Cody McCormick" who WE ALREADY KNOW can't skate? YESSS INDEED!! Murray did a FINE JOB PICKING OFF THE NHL'S "SCRAP PILE" Someone PLEASE TELL ME QUICKLY.... WHICH ONE OF THESE LATEST "BALD TIRES" acquired by WALMART'S NEW GENIUS was EVER AN NHL ALLSTAR!! Here's the real story, Jeff Gourgeuos, Gionta, Metsaros, are all on at least their "FOURTH DIFFERENT TEAM"!! TALK ABOUT "RETREADS"!!!! OH but WAIT... WALMART LOVERS are absolutely SCREAMING ABOUT HOW MUCH different MURRAY is from THE DEADHEAD!!!! Yeah maybe so, but ONE THING WON'T EVER BE DIFFERENT... get ready for DEAD LAST PLACE AGAIN! Wait a minute... do you hear that...? THE SOUND OF THE BOSTON BRUINS "LAFFING" HARD AT WALMART AND THEIR NEW LITTLE USED TIRE PURCHASES!!!! WALMART= "THEEEEE ONLY BIGGEST NICKLE AND DIME LOoSER FRANCHISE THAT'S $30 MILLION DOLLARS "BELOW" THE CAP IN PRO SPORTS HISTORY"! ELITE ME AND SAY MY NAME! WHERE'S ELITE? WHO'S ELITE? HOW'S ELITE? EEELITE MY AZZZ!
07/02/2014 3:07PM
not a good start.stop drinking the cool aid, action doesnt mean results
i hate these moves...all washed up with the exception of moulson who btw is not worth 5 mil a year, maybe 3.5 but not 5. we overpaid for players that r pretty much fil in's.i like the agressiveness on the part of murray but these moves were not smart.

Giroux Thought He was Schopp!!!
OTTAWA -- The Philadelphia Flyers say they are aware of stories out of Ottawa "surrounding" Claude Giroux, who was reportedly arrested Tuesday night for allegedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. The team says it is not commenting further until they have more information. Ottawa police say they can't comment on the media reports because no charges have been laid. When asked if Giroux was still in custody, a police spokesman said he "is no longer here." Police say they don't expect charges to be laid. The Ottawa Police said in a separate press release that seven arrests were made in connection to Canada Day festivities and that all but one were for "non-criminal matters." Pat Brisson, Giroux's agent, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Giroux, a native of Hearst, Ont., who lives in the Ottawa area, was a finalist for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP this past season. The 26-year-old had 28 goals and 58 assists in leading the Flyers to the playoffs.

It's OK, Claude
It is 2014--nobody cares who is gay anymore
07/04/2014 10:24AM
Moulson signed with Buffalo to disappear from the NHL for the next 5 years .... because it's going to take at least 6 years for the Sabres to ice a competitive team.

Old Womens Club
A GM made some legitimate moves, bright outlook toward future and these women can only complain. I wish they'd keep to watching real hockey cheerleaders in Carolina...eh bubba? Buy a ticket or shut-up!
