It was a trying day for Rory McIlroy, finishing 1 under par after shooting a 200, -16 in the first three rounds of the Open Championship.
Thankfully, he built up enough of a lead in the first three rounds to fend off some late surges from Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler, who both finished at 273, 15 under par for the tournament.
2013 champion Phil Mickelson tied for 23rd, finish the day with a four under par, bring him down to a -5 for the weekend.
Tiger Woods barely made the cut after Friday's round and finished 69th with a +6.
This is McIlroy's first Open Championship win, and his third major championship win. He won the PGA Championship in 2012 and the U.S. Open in 2011. He joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players in the history of golf to win three major championships by the age of 25. McIlroy turned 25 in May.
