Artvoice has released a stadium plan, including renderings of downtown Buffalo with an NFL stadium. The plan includes a new convention center and addresses the issue of money, transportation and tailgating.
that the 190 would be moved. That has been an albatross around downtown Buffalo for ever. Cutting the city off from the water front was one of the worst moves this city made next to letting UB move to Amherst.
“Taking down those overhead ramps provides immediate connectivity between Buffalo’s central core and Canalside...Placing the stadium adjacent to the Cobblestone District creates a nexus of entertainment, connecting First Niagara Center, the new HarborCenter, Coca Cola Field, and the Canalside Inner Harbor development parcels." It's been too long that downtown has been marginalized. Think big Buffalo.
I think the artist missed Mr Pegula's new building. And how can you miss it?
I like the location & early stadium design
That's the best thing that's been tossed out there so far. It also looks like the hardest to accomplish. Love to see it happen but we'll probably do what we always do, make the worst choice possible.
and where will we tailgate???????
This is what needs to happen!!!
I'm all for it
the City is already in rebuild mode and on the rise. Putting the stadium in City proper is where it belongs. Plus it just adds to the growing property values I'm seeing. I don't even live in a trendy section of town - South Buffalo - but my house has increased in value over 50% since I bought it 6 years ago. Next step is to buy an old property in the fruit belt. Those 30-40k homes will be worth almost 300K in 10 years with a little updating. The medical campus is a boon. It's time for opportunity my neighbors. Embrace it - or get the hell out. Kind of like what Murray said....you can get on the wagon now, or you can get on the wagon later. But it's happening either way.
love it but it wont happen
I wish it had some sort of moveable roof would have been nice but why it wont happen first where it sits is a lot of parking for downtown take it away and you don't have enough parking for a sabers game let alone a football game theres rr road tracks that go through the new spot the rr company wont let happen traffic into and out of the city is hard enough for a sabers game now take away the 190 and show no other way the state wont let it happen buffalo wants to get away from using the skyway and this has all the traffic using it the city wont let it happen yea its a nice thought but a billion dollar stadium and close to another billion dollars for renovations to downtown to make it happen the city's a bad spot for it there are better spots north and south of the city for it
Love it, but...
is that enough parking and tailgating space for 100k people? What about traffic flow? It's pretty clustery after a hockey game...definitely would be a disaster getting out after a football game.
It makes too much sense to happen. However, if Pegula gets the team, all it will take is him digging a few more wells to fund it.
Looks like there is none. Take a look at an aerial photo of the Ralph and see how much lot space there is comparatively. I know this is just a sketch or mock up but it takes substantial parking lots to endure some crazy tailgating.
Who is paying for this? The taxpayers need to stop letting themselves foot the bills for these stadiums.
I am kind of tired of all of the new stadium teases, but wow! This would be spectacular!
Ok but not great
First, we are never getting a Superbowl. We need to stop planning a stadium like one day a Superbowl will come here.
Second, as a season ticket holder I do not want a roof. I like being outside and enjoying the fresh air. All the people who want a dome/retractable roof are probably people who never go to games.
Love the idea with a few issues
1. It seems like the stadium would be right where the 190 is.
a. If built lower in to the ground it might fit under the 190
i. People throwing litter out of their cars landing on fans and the field.
2. Transportation would allow for people to take the subway, and those from Syracuse and Rochester could take the Amtrak.
a. Would tailgating suffer with limited parking, or would people just tailgate at park and rides?
What about the central terminal idea.
Buffalo Rising featured a good series about the central terminal stadium and convention center, which seems like it would have more benifits to area and less money to buy property. So how about it, whatever happened to equal press?
Take a look at downtown Denver
this would be a dream come true the Buffalo Bills actually playing in Buffalo and not orchard park finally can take a two hour walk to get to the stadium oh please please PLEASE let this be the new downtown Buffalo
Now if we could only find a group of suckers stupid enough to pay for it. We could then ask for tax breaks, police and judicial presence. Charge those same suckers for parking, entry, food ect... And then black out the game if enough suckers don't show up to said stadium. Nah, what group of people would actually put up with that?
The Skyway is still there... No thanks.
Six to midnight...
Ironic that Artvoice is the one who came out with this. We might not win a Super Bowl anytime soon but if this downtown plan were done we'd probably be hosting a Super Bowl. One thing I like is that it would take at least ten years to do all the things proposed which is just when the Ralph lease ends.
funny thing is they still have the skyway in the plan...
this is CLEARLY the best plan. Any stadium plan that includes a new stadium that isn't downtown, is a failed plan.
This is 2014, people want to be in cities. The current generation of 20-somethings are all moving to cities because that is where the people are, and that is where the action is. Any new development to get a city booming should be downtown.
Obviously a downtown stadium that people can walk to also would be huge for convenience and reducing drunk driving. Also more tailgaiting would take place at bars which is good for the economy. If anyone has ever traveled to an out of town game to somewhere like New Orleans or Tennessee whose stadiums are in the downtown area, will know how much better that is.
This would be incredible.
Umm, where'd the 190 go? How about the Buffalo News?
I cannot wait to hear how you guys all missed that the 190 completely disappears in these renderings. Go ahead, I'm listening. How are they planning on people getting into the stadium, by walking? Seriously, please use your brains before putting up stadium renderings.
I love the idea! This would bring a lot of business to downtown in which we need. It well be located in a good section of town. not far from the transit sites, many people would use on game day.
So, they are going to bury the I-190? Yeah, and Bon Jovi will own the team too!
Talk about La La land. What skippy ignores the Perry St. projects that are a blight not 1000 feet away and builds a stadium/convention center NEXT to them? I see they removed the issue of tailgating because there are NO parking lots anywhere once this boondoggle gets done. Surface parking for the stadium AND First Niagara center is non-existent in these renderings. This is more brain-dead than the idea of a stadium in Niagara Falls, Batavia, Cheektowaga, Rochester and Amherst COMBINED! My goodness, please WGR use your brains before you post such stupid ideas.
Throw in another Peace Bridge and I'm in
I don't think that will be efficient, everything will be a little too crowded. Somewhere on the other side of the cobblestone district would be better. It would help us reclaim some of that area of the city.
Not enough ingress and egress
This looks great, but I can't see how the infrastructure could support the influx of traffice, both coming to and leaving the stadium in that location.
Dream on! It's not gonna happen.
Looks Nice, Won't Work
It won't work because depressing I-190 under the stadium area would be a nightmare, and extremely expensive. Syracuse is currently trying to redesign I-81 through the city, and depressed highways and tunnels where looked at and thrown out. Costs and environmental impacts make them a no go. The relocation of the highway alone could bring a price tag of over 500 million. Nice concept, will never happen.
Anyone want to explain where the I-190 went?
I hope this idea comes to reality! Excellent location with plenty of parking! I vote YES!
I love seeing this! In my opinion, if the City of Buffalo wants to continue to develop and revitalize, there is no other option other than building a stadium on the waterfront.
My main concern/question is the parking situation. Tailgating is a ritual when it comes to Bills football. As proposed in the plan above, would the parking ramps with tailgating on the top level be an effective solution?
no matter what, the skyways has to go!
Any plan like this that includes maintaining the Skyway in it's current configuration is unacceptable. I'd rather put the 5 underground/water and keep the 190 the way it is.
I am not from Buffalo, but to me, these plans look great. I love the idea of having a "downtown" stadium. Lots to do for fans, pre-game and post-game. Also, keeping the stadium in the Buffalo area is a must. I am a life long Bills fan, but if they were to ever leave, my ties to the team would be cut. I would boycott the NFL and become a college football fan.
I like the potential...
Especially if Terry does get the team. It would go along great with the current work hes putting in the canalside area.
Now that a sight to see.
Ok it creates more jobs and it will show will light up downtown. it will bring more companies back to buffalo. Once again more jobs what will complete this idea is the rail exspanding to the south towns or suburbs where needed. Once again a positive move why? More people downtown the more people will spend their money. And then we see the bills play on tv. You will see buffalo and not the falls all the time. And to see we are building for the future. I just love this idea. I hope it becomes true. Lets go buffalo
Are they kidding-do they know how much that would cost? The highway tunnel alone would probably cost $1.5 billion.
Leave it to the liberals to advocate spending till their heart's content, as long as it is other people's-or better yet taxpayers'-money.
It sucks getting out of downtown now from a hockey game or concert. Some of football games coincide with hockey games or concerts. Then what??????
the whole project
I love it put buffalo on ihe map as a very aggressive city. The project address not only the stadium, but other
the city needs.
Invite for Terrorists
Talk about an invite to terrorists, a highway tunnel under a stadium that seats 60k plus...security nightmare!
Under the Bridge?
And just where did the 190 go?
Keep the stadium in ORCHARD PARK NY!!!!!
I can't even imagine the gridlock that would be in that location of downtown!! The Orchard Park stadium is like the hub of a wheel and SO much better to get in and out. Besides, O.P. is a much safer community for parking, walking, tail-gating,etc. Iwill NOT be attending if the plans change to downtown Buffalo... or anywhere else, other than Orchard Park NY!!!!!
The I-190 just kind of ends there....will it be a dead end? Make sure you put the toll booths back up to help pay for its removal. Was this a 1st grade art contest? It is nice to dream...a bunch of dreamers at Artvoice. Starving Arteeest types.
Name of Stadium
Need to name the stadium the "Jimmy Griffin Memorial Stadium" in honor of a GREAT democrat.
So then, Sabres' fans park where?
According to this plan, any non-suite or 200 club or 100 club seat holder will have to park across some imaginary I-190 and go through the new stadium in the dead of winter just to go see a Sabres' game or concert. Of course, the Perry St. Projectseyesore still stays in this proposal. Brilliant plan.
This concept is exactly what needs to be accomplished. A couple additions: 1.Turn the Stadium so the end zone points towards Canalside 2. Demolish the HSBC Atrium building and replace it with a WNY Sports Hall of Fame building that stands in between thestadium and the ice rink(s). 3. Possibly relocate the Buffalo News? I can't wait to see it: DELAWARE NORTH FIELD.
So the plan calls for making it impossible to move "quickly" from the west side of downtown Buffalo to anywhere east of Main Street. Surprised the plan does not call for the elimination of Skyway entrance/exit ramps - - hey- just noticed no exit for the north bound Skyway into downtown. Simply Brillant
Where is the 190 in the after rendering? That is major route for people in the south towns.
For Sale Sign
They need to add a for sale sign on the marine midland building
This is well thought out and refreshing. A different perspective with potential. Though it will never please the throng of naysayers. I love it.
AMAZINGLY ENOUGH WGR IS RIGHT ON!
As "THE LOoSERS" around here like to say.... nice "PIECE"! It's amazing how good WGR looks and sounds when "plagiarizing" other media outlets! ....YESS!! THIS IS EXACTLY what the Bills, New York State and the NFL should pursue downtown!! I would pay $100 more a year in taxes for that! Better spent than the annual 3.5% money laundering "school tax" increases for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN RETURN BESIDES FUNDING "SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS" 3 FIGURE SALARIES THEY STEAL!
well thought out
It's time to step into the 21st century Buffalo. Whether it is this design or something similar, downtown is the way to go. Lets do it right this time!
New Bills Stadium
Make it Happ'n Cap'n
..... he-double-hockey sticks did the 190 go???
Any new stadium needs to be a dome or may as well stay at the Ralph.
Just picture perfect.
Than extend the subway to the suburbs and you got a plan. As far as i am concern this is the blue print for the future of the bills. So lets stop dreaming about it and make it happen. I mean like hell every thing else is down their. So why not put the bills right their where they belong in the first place. Lets go buffalo.
parking could be a problem
That stadium would be a great fit
IN TORONTO. BRING ON THE MOVING VANS!!!
Buffalo Stadium Downtown
First to the clown from Canada....GET YOUR OWNE TEAM, you won't support the team in Toronto as evident by the mere 20,000 in attendance when the Bills have come there in the past few years.
On to the important business....Love the location and initial design of the stadium. Bills fans and all of WNY would be in full support. It would be the stepping stone to modernizing downtown Buffalo....I PRAY THAT IT HAPPENS!!!!!
Needs to be 75,000 to 85,000 seats. Put a winning product on the field and all games will be sold out. There will be a waiting list for available tickets.
