Rory McIlroy won his second straight major championship at Valhalla Golf Club on Sunday. The 25-year old's 16-under par for the tournament was good enough to defeat Phil Mickelson by one stroke.
The tournament finished in near-darkness Sunday at Valhalla Golf Club, with the final two groups (McIlroy and Bernd Wiesberger, Rickie Fowler and Mickelson) essentially morphing into a foursome as they raced to beat nightfall. A two-hour rain delay halted tee times for the two groups into the four o'clock hour.
It wasn't easy for McIlroy, as opposed to the British Open last month, he struggled on the front nine before making eagle on the 10th.
"I just really gutted it out today, it was a little different than the previous major wins that I had," McIlroy said after the victory. "I think showed a lot of guts out there today to get this job done."
