Encarnacion Shines in Bisons Win

Fans that stuck around after a 45-minute rain delay were treated to an entertaining ball game Tuesday night, as the Bisons (66-57) escaped with a 7-5 victory over the Norfolk Tides (55-69) in game two of a four-game stretch at Coca-Cola Field.
The Bisons were able to strike first when Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion belted a towering grand slam with two outs in the second inning. The All-Star first-basemen was making his first rehab start with the Bisons after being put on the DL on July 7th with Toronto.
Encarnacion looked comfortable from his first at-bat, tagging a well-hit fly-out to left. During his second at-bat, Encarnacion showed why the Blue Jays have missed the All-Star slugger when he skied the first pitch he saw well over the left field wall for a grand slam, the first grand slam by a Bisons player since August 14th of 2012.

"I'm just looking for something in the strike zone and to make a good swing on it. He hung me the slider and I made a good swing," Encarnacion said after the game.
Encarnacion ended the day 1-4 with a grand slam and four RBI. He is expected to make his debut in the field tomorrow after serving as the Bisons DH Tuesday
Bisons Manager Gary Allenson liked what he saw from Encarnacion making his first rehab start. "I've been doing this for 20 years and ninth year in Triple-A and I hadn't had a lot of success with the Major League rehab guys, but Edwin is obviously the exception," Allenson said.
Adding to Encarnacion's run support was LF Kevin Pillar who added three hits and an RBI extending his hit streak to 19 games.
On the other side, Bisons starter Kendall Graveman shined in his third start of the season with the Bisons. Going seven strong innings, allowing only three hits and no earned runs with one walk and 2 strike-outs, lowering the combined ERA of Bisons starting pitchers to 1.54 in the month of August.
