Late Turnover Lifts Steelers to 19-16 Win Over Bills
Shaun Suisham made two field goals, including the game-winner as time expired, giving the Steelers a 19-16 win over the Bills. Sammy Watkins exited the game early with a rib injury and did not return. Doug Marrone said Watkins is suffering from a rib contusion, but offered no further details. A report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport stated that Watkins' injury is not considered to be serious and the rookie is expected to be fine.
Watkins was hurt on the game's opening drive, taking a knee to the ribs from Ryan Shazier. Trainers briefly examined Watkins on the sideline before the Bills WR headed to the locker room. Four plays after Watkins' injury, Dan Carpenter connected on a 37-yard field goal, putting Buffalo ahead 3-0.
The Steelers responded less than a minute later on a 76-yard touchdown by Antonio Brown. Duke Williams collided with Corey Graham on the coverage, clearing the way for Brown to make the catch over the middle and sprint untouched to the end zone.
Ben Roethlisberger's second scoring toss of the evening came later in the quarter, a 16-yard strike to Markus Wheaton in the corner of the end zone, giving the Steelers a 13-3 lead. Wheaton's touchdown was set up by a Shazier interception on Buffalo's previous drive. EJ Manuel's pass was intended for Scott Chandler on a seam route, but instead settled into the hands of the rookie LB who took it well into Bills territory.
Manuel and most of the Bills' first-team offense played out the half, running 45 total plays, but failed to record a touchdown. Two incomplete passes in the end zone, one intended for Robert Woods and the other for Chandler, ended Manuel's final drive of the day.
Manuel finished 17-27 for 148 yards and an interception. Jeff Tuel threw for 48 yards on five completions in relief and Thad Lewis was just 1-6 for 18 yards and a pick.
Buffalo finally reached the end zone in the third quarter on a 1-yard dive by Anthony Dixon. The Bills started inside the Steelers' 20 yard line thanks to a Landon Cohen fumble return. Stefan Charles stripped the ball from Landry Jones and Cohen scooped it up, rumbling 59 yards to the Pittsburgh 16.
The two sides traded field goals in the fourth quarter before trading turnovers in the game's final minute. Deon Broomfield picked off Bruce Gradkowski along the sideline with 43 seconds to play, but Howard Jones took a Jeff Tuel fumble to the Buffalo 1-yard line just three plays later. Tuel was sacked by Vic So'oto, who blew past second-round pick Cyrus Kouandjio. Moments later, Suisham's chip shot went through the uprights to give Pittsburgh the three-point win.
Fred Jackson led the Bills in rushing with 27 yards on six carries. Jackson also hauled in seven receptions for 28 yards while Woods caught three passes for 49 yards.
The Bills will play at Ralph Wilson Stadium for the first time this preseason next Saturday, a 4:30 p.m. kickoff against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hear the call on WGR 550 and the Buffalo Bills Radio Network.

DRAFT A REAL QB WALEY..
The Bill's have a back up QB pretending to be a starter and two third stringers pretending to be back ups.
Here we go again wasting 5 years waiting for a miracle at the QB position.
Two things jump out at me from this game
Two things jump out at me from this game: 1. Marrone was insane having C.J. return a punt in a pre-season game; and 2. I'm willing to bet my Van Miller Club season tickets that Marrone is wishing he had drafted Nassib and not Manuel. In 5 years, Nassib will be a franchise QB for the Giants while Marrone will be lucky to be coaching the OL at Syracuse.
There has to be a quarterback out there to trade for that can start for the Buffalo Bills.
My reaction on the winning field goal by Pittsburgh
Take a look at the Call it like Rick winner guy on the home page. The same reaction can go for the missed field goal attempt by Dan Carpenter (WR) with 12:00 to go and the Manuel interception in the first quarter.
We don't think so about.
here we go again format. Their just can't be no way you start any qb the bills got in they can't get the job done. And i would like to know why isn't dixion getting time on the field. Come on coach he couldn't do no worser than lewis or tuel. Because something got to give here i mean i know it's only preseason. But we need to see if any one of them can get the job done. Because if they can't than we better get somebody in here fast. Lord knows we don't need another losing season. So we are waiting to see this change in leadership at qb position. Somebody got to step up and be the leader of this team. Lets go buffalo
The game as a whole
A JOKE. Can't say it any better. The sale of this team should be pushed up before the season starts. Theres no owner in charge to force change, especially to this roster with one being at quarterback which is a Joke. The backups are not any better and should be cut being replaced with better. We are headed for another pi$$ poor season I'm afraid. Many TV's will be off by halftime this year if something isn't done about it.
Can't wait for Pegula!
Time is (WASTING) away.
Especially at QB position. If this keeps up, maybe at the Coaching positions too? Is everyone blind?
Rookie QB (sort of) 2nd year coach, 2nd year O Coordinator. Below par back ups.....
I wonder if it would have made much more sense to sign a back up with some experience under his belt. Like the Colts did for Luck with Hasselbeck. It could only help EJ.
The Search Continues
For a QB. After watching Ben Roethlisberger, it's easy to see how bad EJ really is. Never in a million years could EJ make the throws that Ben does. Why this guy is still on the roster is a mystery to us all. This team will be worse than the usual 6-10.
