Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Jim Kelly's biopsies taken recently have come back "negative" according to former teammate and broadcaster Steve Tasker. Tasker tweeting out the encouraging news about the Hall of Fame quarterback Thursday afternoon.
"This is some of the greatest news I've ever gotten," says Kelly in a statement. "It's been a long road, an dI'm still not back to 100 percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for."
A portion of Kelly's jaw was removed last year after his initial bout with squamous cell carcinoma. Earlier this year, the cancer recurred and Kelly underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments in New York's Lenox Hill Hospital and in Buffalo.
"I am so thankful for the support and prayers of my family, my friends near and far, and everyone in Western New York and throughout the country through my illness. I also want to thank the medical specialists who have doen such amazing work," continues Kelly. "Most of all, I want to thank God. WIthout my faith and God's constant presence, there would be no such thing as 'Kelly Tough.'"
