Mandatory minicamp began Wednesday at One Bills Drive, and Jason Peters was not present and will be fined according to Dick Jauron. Jauron said "Jason's not here so he will be fined... I'm surprised by it, I thought Jason would be at our mandatory mini camp, but that's the decision he's made."
While G Derrick Dockery said “I know Peters will be ready so I’m not worried about it.” He continued by saying "He's [Peters] a phenomenal player. He'll step right in, he won’t miss a beat and it's just us guys out here, we're just trying to get better. I can't wait till he gets back cause I know when he comes back he's going to be ready to play."
QB Trent Edwards said he wasn't aware Peters wasn't there until it was brought up to him by the media. Calls to representatives of Peters were not returned.
The Bills' Pro Bowl LT has three years left on his contract, which will pay him a base salary of $3.25 million. Both Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery earn more than Peters.
LB Angelo Crowell joined the Howard Simon Show this morning although he didn’t comment on the Peters situation, he said mini camp is important because “This is really the first taste of getting your body back into football conditioning, back through the football movements. This stuff is almost a must for me and for the rest of the guys, so that’s why we’re all here.”
Jon Banks is also absent from practice as his wife just gave birth to a baby girl. Lee Evans, Melvin Fowler, Robert Royal and Tim Massaquoi were in attendance, but not practicing.
