On the eve of Tuesday's start to the NHL's free agent signing period, the Buffalo Sabres have come to terms on a four-year extension with forward Paul Gaustad worth $9.2 million. Gaustad will make $1.7 million in the first year. The three remaining years will pay him $2.5 million annually.
Gaustad was a restricted free agent and had been given a qualifying offer. Dan Paille, Mike Mancari, Steve Bernier and Clarke MacArthur have also been given qualifying offers.
Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said from team rookie camp Monday, that he's had " cordial conversations" with goalie Ryan Miller about a new contract. Miller has one-year remaining on his current deal. The team cannot officially negotiate with the goaltender until noon tomorrow.
