(WGR 550) -- The National Basketball Association has given the okay for the Seattle Supersonics to move to Oklahoma City, after new owner Clay Bennett reached an agreement with the city Wednesday.
The green-and-gold and team name with stay in Seattle as part of a $75 million settlement between the new ownership group and the city. The money covers the cancellation of the arena lease between the two parties.
“We made it,” Bennett said after stepping to an Oklahoma City podium featuring the NBA logo and the letters OKC. “The NBA will be in Oklahoma City next season.”
Bennett still has to contend with the man who sold him the team, Howard Schultz. According to the AP report, Schultz claims that "Bennett didn’t follow through on an agreement to negotiate in good faith for a new arena in Seattle for one full year before seeking relocation options."
