Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) -- The Sabres have signed veteran defenseman Teppo Numminen to a one-year contract today. Numminen missed all but one game last season with a heart ailment. The 40-year old underwent successful heart surgery in September of 2007. The deal is worth 1.1-million dollars.
Numminen has been with the Sabres since the 2005-06 campaign. He has 620 career points in 1315 games played.
GM Darcy Regier says the grievance the defenseman filed last season to be paid has been resolved. Numminen received a financial settlement. He had been suspended by the Sabres before the surgery because he couldn't pass a team physical before training camp. He was paid the final few weeks of the season.
The Sabres have also signed Tyler Bouck to a new deal. Bouck was the captain for the Portland Pirates last season. He recorded 11 goals and 18 assists in 79 games last year in the AHL. The Pirates will play a regular season game in the H.S.B.C. Arena against the Albany River Rats on February 10th at 7:30 p.m.
