The Sabres will start the 2008-2009 campaign without Mike Weber.
The defenseman was assigned to Portland Wednesday. He still had options left, so Weber doesn’t have to clear waivers before reporting to Buffalo’s new AHL affiliate.
Paul Gaustad’s injury has landed him on the injured reserve. He had thumb surgery on September 29th.
Buffalo’s roster now stands at 23, the allotted amount a team can carry.
The Sabres take the ice for the first time Friday night. The Canadians come to HSBC Arena. The puck drops at 7:30, and can be heard on WGR Sportsradio 550.
