Tampa, FL (WGR 550) -- Lindy Ruff went after his team loud and hard for over an hour today in Tampa. Ruff did not like the effort at times that he got. He said, "It wasn't good enough. I don't care if we got 46 shots, I thought our last couple of shifts, even with our goaltender pulled lacked intensity. It lacked desperation and it almost led to an empty net goal against and I was disappointed." Ruff liked his defense against Florida, but said, "I didn't like what some our forwards did. It wasn't good enough. If our five-on-five scoring is going to be better, our forwards have to do more." Ruff wasn't finished, "I'm not going to accept two or three shifts off at the end of the game. I'm not going to accept it in the middle of the second period. We've got some guys that lose hope too quick, get frustrated and lose hope. That's a couple of our skill guys. They lose hope and then their feet quit moving and pretty soon, we're chasing people down the ice."
Last night Ruff blamed much of the Florida loss on Ryan Miller. Ruff said he felt the Panthers first goal was "An easy play for Ryan to read." Ruff added, "You've got to get saves there. That's the bottom line there. You've got to get big saves at a time like that."
Miller was very careful in his response where he got emotional and angry. Miller said, "We've talked about me sitting back and make the read. I sat back and they threw a guy off the bench and I didn't read that so yah, I can sit back and make a better play, but everything is magnified right now. One or two goals a night is fine as long as you're winning, but right now everything is going to get loked at so, what ever." Miller was asked about the "D" jumping up into the play more and he started to get a little emotional and angry. He walked away saying, "I guess I'll have to read better."
Clarke MacArthur missed practice after blocking a shot in the ankle. Mike Weber is back in Portland. Ruff said Craig Rivet is 50/50 for tomorrow vs Tampa.
