Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550) -- The Bills said good-bye to the 2008 season with some old friends showing up. Angelo Crowell made an appearance as did Aaron Schobel.
Crowell elected to have his knee scoped the week of the season opener against Seattle. He was hoping to be out four to six weeks, but unexpectedly found himself on season ending IR. The Bills said they needed the roster spot, yet they held a spot for rookie TE Derek Fine for seven weeks. Last season they held a spot for Ryan Denney for ten weeks. The LB said once he found out he was on IR, he had more extensive surgery to prolong his career. Crowell said he asked about surgery in training camp, but doctors told him to stick with the plan. He said during the first week of the season, he couldn't practice and he couldn't go out and contribute the way he wanted to so he decided to have the scope. Dick Jauron always maintained that was Crowell's right and his decision. Sources close to the Bills coach have said Jauron was livid with the timing of it being right before the first game and that's why he wound up on IR. Crowell does not seem at all hurt by what happened. He said, "I talked to Russ Brandon today. He said it was just the timing of the situation. I don't harbor any ill feelings because he said it was a timing issue and he doesn't have any ill feelings and he knows I am not a quitter, he knows the type of work I put in and he feels good about me. That's the main thing, I wanted to make sure that me being put on IR, that there wasn't any ill feelings or that it was done out of anger." Crowell is a free agent now and he still wants to call Buffalo his home, "That's why I talked to Russ because I love playing for this organization, the fans are great and they supported me throughout this whole thing so I would definitely entertain it. Russ said the door wasn't closed. He wants to see where I am with my rehab and what's next for me. He said he'd definitely be talking to my agent." Crowell says his rehab is ahead of schedule and he'll be ready to go next season.
Aaron Schobel is hoping surgery isn't in his future. He said he'll be back February 1st to test his foot and see if the ligament is healed. If not, he would have to have surgery, but he says he's seen considerable improvement the past three weeks so he's hopeful.
Trent Edwards had no evaluatin of his season. He said he'd be better prepared to talk about it in a few weeks after reviewing film. I find it interesting he has no idea how he did without film study.
Jabari Greer isn't closing the door on remanining in Buffalo, but the free agent CB is excited about testing the market.
Today was to talk to the players as Dick Jauron and Russ Brandon were not made available.
