Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) -- The Sabres cleaned out their lockers, had physicals and spoke with Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier as they leave for the summer. The players realized they were one win short of making the playoffs. Ryan Miller said they have nobody to blame but themselves. "We're not seeking anybody out to give us any empathy on this one, fans should be pissed, we're pissed. We're trying to sort through some issues to make us a better team." Miller added that "We have to change the attitude in the way we approach things. Collectively as a group we have to get back to some of the things we did a few years ago, but we also have to move past that. It obviously didn't win us a Cup then. As much as the city fell in love with that team, we're never going to recapture that. We have to come up with our own identity. If we're going to have success with the world class talent that we have on this team then it's going to have to come from a willingness to compete. I'm going to stick to it, we have a ton of talent available to us in this organization. What we need to do is find that swagger that we had. That's the only thing I want to compare to a few years ago. I don't want to be that team, but I want the swagger."
Miller will not play for the United States in the World Championships. Tim Connolly has also turned them down and Jason Pominville says he has to check out an undsiclosed injury before he decides. Drew Stafford will play for Team USA. Andrej Sekera will play for Slovakia while Derek Roy will skate for Lindy Ruff and Team Canada. Maxim Afinogenov and Teppo Numminen are still deciding if they want to skate with Russia and Finland.
Afinogenov who's an unrestricted free agent says he'll leave Buffalo with a lot of good memories and he does not hate Ruff. He said they disagreed at times.
