Whitner Expects Charges To Be Dropped

Bills safety Donte Whitner will appear in a Cleveland court tomorrow on charges of aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Whitner expects the charges to be dropped. He says that his lawyer has received a video tape of the incident that occurred in April outside of the House of Blues in Cleveland. Police were called to the scene to break up a "near riot". Whitner was subdued with a taser gun.

"Hopefully, everything is dropped tomorrow. That's what my lawyer is telling me. As my side of the story, I assure everyone that I didn't do anything wrong. Anybody that knows me, what type of guy I am and what type of things I stand by, knows that I didn't do anything wrong. We have a video tape of the whole incident. Hopefully, we're going to get it all taken care of (Tuesday)."

Whitner did not want to go over details of the events from April.   "I think I'll wait for it to be settled in court before I tell my side of the story. But I will tell my side of the story once it is settled in a court of law. We expect it to be dropped and hopefully, it's dropped (Tuesday)."

The Bills' defensive captain also talked about the increased attention his team is getting because of the addition of Terrell Owens.  "When you have a guy like that and he brings the spotlight with him from playing for the San Francisco 49ers, and the things that transpired in Philadelphia and Dallas, the way he left and the things he brings to this football team. We knew it would be like this. It’s different but I guess we’ll get used to it."

Will Owens make the Bills a different team?  Whitner knows from experience what #81 can do when Buffalo battled Dallas in Orchard Park in 2007.  "He caught a deep ball on our best corner on the team, Terrence McGee, and Terrence played him tough all day, and he caught a nice pass in the end zone which would have been a touchdown. You can see how he and Lee (Evans) are going to work together. He makes a play and then you can come back and go to Lee Evans. We had single coverage on the outside and he we have a good running game, so I’m excited to see those guys work against some other competition."
