While I was growing up, my father always told me to be careful with how much I follow the Bills. He said that they would always find a way to lose. I was too young to watch the Bills-Giants Super Bowl, but I have seen it, and they sure did find the most heart breaking way to lose. Maybe he meant it’s not that they lose, its how they lose. Perhaps that’s why last season stung so much.
They started out 4-1, with two of those wins coming against predicted playoff caliber teams. Still being leery, they come out of the bye week with a win over San Diego. After that, stupid me was sold. I was making plans for my first ever playoff party.
Lesson learned. How do they reward my optimism? By going 0-6 within the division, and 2-8 overall. They give arguably the worst coach in the NFL (and the newly formed UFL) a three year extension. To top it all off, four players get arrested. Signing Owens helped, but not nearly enough.
Until they really clinch a spot as one of the top six teams, I will expect something to ruin it. Lesson learned indeed.
