I understand there is some level of decorum and etiquette involved, but why can’t someone in the media call Dick Jauron or Darcy Regier out for their completely insulting answers in interviews?!?!? Ask them, “What was that?” or “You didn’t answer my question?” Maybe it’s against the media-athlete unwritten rules, like bunting to break up a no-hitter, but I would applaud the writer or host who does so, and I think all would. Someone must break down that barrier.
Listening to these two men answer questions is comparable to hearing the CEO of GM talk about the companies “future outlook”. It’s dull, not exciting, and not inspiring. This is an entertainment business after all; they are not in charge of secret military covert operations. Though NFL game plans seem to be getting closer to that level each year. How often do we actually gain any insight from these men? Their interviews are filled with two sided answers as they teeter totter on the fence of every question, prefacing every answer with an out clause should it ever come back to bite them. Heaven forbid they take a stance on something or say something that has an ounce of controversy in it.
The recent release of Darcy’s latest comments on the off-season plans have really pushed me to a point where I turn off the TV or radio when I hear him talk. He says the same thing each time, each year, each season; and I think he may be a robot after all.
When can we get some interesting people in here? TO’s at least a start, maybe he will stir the Bills’ pot a little. As for the Sabres, who knows? But at the bare minimum, Darcy has proven he can at least put a solid team together. That’s something that cuts him some slack, slack that Jauron doesn’t have. And if Jauron doesn’t put a solid team on the field this year, it’s time to cut bait with him and his contract. How exciting will that press conference be (laced with sarcasm)?
