This isn’t important… So why is it on?

Over the past couple of years, for all of the Spring and Summer months, we have had to listen to ESPN and the NFL Network tell us that Brett Favre is news. I guess a sure fire first ballet Hall OF Fame Quarterback with 3 MVP’s and a Super Bowl ring coming back to play for one more year is news… that is when he is indeed coming back. The first couple of years it wasn’t so annoying because it didn’t really affect anyone other then Packer fans and it wasn’t about was he coming back, but more so why wouldn’t he. I guess they never thought that he would play anywhere else. That all changed when Favre and Ted Thompson started text fighting and playing “who wants a sound bite now” with anyone who would listen. It was like being in high school all over again. We all know what happens next… he plays for the Jets. Starts off well. Ends horribly. He retires. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, welcome the off season of 2009. There have been so many incorrect reports that 50% of the news coverage reguarding Favre has been retractions and apologies. I recall the reprt about Brad Childress flying to Mississippi to meet Favre, then a half hour later he was at the Vikings training facilty. Top notch reporting Ed Werder… or Michael Smith… or Rachel Nichols…or… I have to stop there because I am getting a headache. Trust me there are more and I guess since everyone including the ESPN anchors and Rich Eisen even joke about being sick of covering this eventless saga, why are they? Why are they covering possibility? Why not just break the story when he signs… if he sign? Because in the end, if he doesn’t sign with the Vikings or anyone else, was it ever a story to begin with? I know that with all the sports coverage there is now, its much more competitive then it was 25 years ago when all that was reported were the box scores. Everyone wants to get one up on the other guy. I guess maybe when I turn on Sportscenter and the only team sport in season is baseball… I want me some Cubs highlights, or Mets… or place your team name here. I don’t want to have to wait for those scores and highlights because Maybe Favre will have surgery, sign with the Vikes, torch the Pack and win a Super Bowl…. ITS SUMMER! Talk Baseball! Nobody wins the Super Bowl in July. Nobody Was talking about the Steelers last Summer or the Giants the Summer before that. Its not even just Favre intruding into the baseball season… it’s all “entertainment” taking on more. I guess what’s really bothering me is that the idea of “the celebrity” has taken over the Earth. Since when does...
