Hello race fans! Welcome to a gorgeous day at Watkins Glen International where the IndyCar Series will be running the Camping World Grand Prix at the Glen. Stay tuned to WGR for coverage of the race and follow my live blog here.
12:36 p.m. - Less than an hour from race time. Australian Ryan Briscoe will lead the field to green as he starts on the pole in the Penske Racing #6. Justin Wilson was fastest in the morning practice session and will start outside of the front row. Danica Patrick starts seventh today for Andretti-Green Racing.
12:53 p.m. - UB football coach Turner Gill is the Grand Marshall for today's race, while Governor David Paterson is also here. Gill drew a modest round of applause when he was introduced, but the Governor drew more boos than even Kyle Busch would get.
1:20 p.m. - Turner Gill gives the command to fire engines!
1:30 p.m. - Green flag is waved by David Paterson. He must not have practiced his flag waving as it got twisted up even before the field finished crossing the starting line. Ryan Hunter-Reay must have been jinxed by his Fast Track appearence this morning as he crashes before completing the first lap.
Spent some time walking up and down pit road just checking things out. Was possibly hoping to catch a glimpse of Ashley Judd in her husband's (Dario Franchitti) pit stall, but no such luck.
1:32 p.m. - Justin Wilson overtakes Ryan Briscoe heading into the bus top to take the lead on lap 3.
1:34 p.m. - Marco Andretti stops momentarily on the track with a flat tire before limping back to the pits. He cut the tire after making contact with E. J. Viso.
1:39 p.m. - Graham Rahal's team is already playing with pit strategy as he makes an early stop. They also replaced the front wing after it took some damage early in the race.
1:51 p.m. - Justin Wilson is well out in front with 17 of 60 laps completed. Ryan Brisoce is trailing back in second. Mario Moreas, Scott Dixon and Mike Conway round out the top five.
1:53 p.m. - Dan Wheldon brings the Panther Racing #4 in for a green flag pit stop. Leader Justin Wilson comes in on the following lap.
1:56 p.m. - Richard Antinucci brings out a full course caution on lap 20. Ryan Briscoe makes what could be a big mistake as he pitted just as the yellow flag came out. Briscoe was only allowed to take fuel because the yellow came out, and will need to go back to change tires.
2:00 p.m. - The rest of the field comes down pit road when it opens. Mario Moreas entered the pits as the leader, but is now 16th. Wilson is back in front followed by Conway, Rahal, Hideki Mutoh and Helio Castroneves.
2:06 p.m. - Sorry Ashley! Dario Franchitti spins into the gravel pit in the bus stop to bring out a second full course yellow on lap 23. Franchitti tried to avoid running into Ed Carpenter and Mario Moreas as they collided entering the chicane.
2:13 p.m. - Wilson leads after the restart followed by Conway, Mutoh, Castroneves, and Wheldon.
2:14 p.m. - Danica Patrick is running sixth. Is this her last appearance at the Glen in an IndyCar? Will she be here next year driving a NASCAR Sprint Cup car? Doubt it, but I just wanted to get you thinking.
2:19 p.m. - Halfway through this event Justin Wilson leads over rookie Mike Conway by 0.827 seconds.
2:20 p.m. - Paul Tracy crashes in between turns 7 & 8 to bring out the yellow flag. Tracy just lost the handle of the car and spun on his own. This was Tracy's first ever IndyCar start at the Glen. I'm sure he's ready to head home to Canada where he'll be racing next week on the streets of Toronto in the Honda Indy Grand Prix.
2:26 p.m. - Conflict between the Newman/Haas/Lanigan teammates Graham Rahal and Robert Doornbos. Rahal didn't appreciate his teammate almost running him off the track and wasn't shy about saying on the radio what he thought of the move.
2:47 p.m. - What should be the final round of green flag pit stops are taking place. Marco Andretti leads but still needs to pit after losing a lap early in the race. Wilson, Briscoe, Dixon, Castroneves and Conway run behind.
2:51 p.m. - Justin Wilson is now back out in front and has been the dominant car of the race.
2:57 p.m. - 10 laps to go. Wilson leads Briscoe by about 1 second.
3:00 p.m. - Hideki Mutoh brings out a full course yellow in the same spot Paul Tracy did. Seven laps to go as Wilson tries to get his second win and give his owner Dale Coyne his first.
3:08 p.m. - 4 laps to go and Justin Wilson is out for a Sunday afternoon cruise in the Finger Lakes.
3:13 p.m. - White flag and Wilson looks to be headed to the win.
3:14 p.m. - Justin Wilson gets his second career IndyCar win and Dale Coyne gets his first as an owner! Ryan Briscoe finishes second. Scott Dixon regains the points lead with a third place finish. Helio Castroneves comes home fourth and rookie Mike Conway has an impressive fifth place run.
It's the first time in 10 races that someone from a team besides Penske Racing or Target Chip Ganassi Racing to win an IndyCar race.
