Day three of Sabres development camp brought the toughest tests for the goaltending corps, led by Jhonas Enroth. Many of the team drills keyed on in-close work around the net and odd-man situations to test the netminders.
Enroth, Buffalo's 2nd round selection in the 2006 NHL Draft, didn't mind the heightened intensity level. The Swedish-born product has been staying in hockey shape throughout the off-season, and welcomed the chance to work into a rhythm by facing extra shots.
Enroth has stayed in shape since the end of the 2008 season thanks to a summer training program schedule provided by Buffalo's training staff.
2007 draft pick Nick Eno also faced a tough day between the pipes. The Howell, Michigan native had to work against the quick hands of Nathan Gerbe during drills.
Forward Tyler Ennis had just a light skate on the ice today. Ennis is recovering from a back injury suffered in the off-season. He strained several muscles in his back during a workout session. The 26th pick in the 2008 draft said he has been receiving treatment for the injury.
Ennis is excited for fellow '08 first round pick Tyler Myers and his three-year entry level contract signed this past May with Buffalo. Ennis said he hopes to talk to the team about a contract throughout the summer.
2009 first round pick Zack Kassian missed the on-ice portion of camp for the third straight day with a sore foot. Kassian has said he hopes to skate by the end of camp on Friday.
Head coach Lindy Ruff ran practice on the main rink, while assistant coach James Patrick oversaw drills on the secondary rink at Dwyer Arena.

this is when you start looking for anything to make the sabres look good. hack journalism 101
07/08/2009 9:33PM
really wow
all of the sudden following training camp is hack journalism? thats probably mistaken for following a professional hockey team and seeing where the draft picks stand. It may be a bit much to talk about a rookie camp but there is no problem with keeping fans updated on how prospects are fairing because alot of fans like to stay knowledgable on their team including sabres fans. Its understood that they havent had a very good team on the ice the last couple of seasons but why is it a problem that someone is covering the highly touted prospects in the system, and many of who are rising the ranks fairly quickly? That seems like an ignorant statement at best.
07/08/2009 9:41PM
Don't like it, don't read it
Dude, lots of fans wanna hear about prospect camp. You don't like it, don't read it.
07/08/2009 10:07PM
wow II
great im sure they have the same articles on how paile and whoever that kid was who went to the khl had great camps 3 years ago, and those who are so interested in those camps are hacks who look for anything to look to..u think in nyc they care about their dam rookies..they care about players they have on the active roster
07/08/2009 10:13PM
wow III
and you idiots who sit there and talk about how the cnnsi had an article on how the sabres had 3 former FA busts and claim regier and quinn are the smartest guys in Sports. These prospects arent going to do crap for us and they can action words like "intense or Determination" but at the end of the day the majority of these players wont see the light of day..the sabres draft records show that...but keep dreaming our farm system is like the montreal expos and redwings reincarnetd...
07/08/2009 10:18PM
FYI . . .
The headline on the NY Rangers website is about their 2008 draftpick Michael De Zotto . . .so I guess they do care about rookies in NYC. Fans actually here do care about these camps, especially since our team has some good young players like Myers that might help us get back on track in a year or two.
07/08/2009 10:40PM
Draft Pick criticism...?
To be honest I read the prospect camp because I have watched some of these players play growing up and I'd like to see how they develop. So I find this interesting. Also, since Golisano has kept the team in Buffalo, can we stop complaining that they are budgeting their money well and remain to keep the team profitable. Don't like, it stop paying for tickets....They missed playoffs by 1 damn point last year, and not to agree with Regier, but if they had Miller in net and a healthy Connolly they'd be in the Playoffs.
07/08/2009 11:15PM
wow IV
Wow lets commend the team from going to presidents trophy winner to we missed the playoffs by a point..i guess you would of thrown a party if they made the 8th seed and then ran across delaware avenue naked if they won a playoff game....and just because myers dominated in juniors doesnt mean he'll do the same in the pros..i mean varada is the all time leader in goals in rochester..but hey keep listening to the sabres flunkies who will advertise how these kids are briere and drury with buffalo roots.
07/08/2009 11:33PM
I Agree and Disagree
I agree... it is exciting to see prospects like Tyler Myers, Tim Kennedy, and hopefully Zack Kassian take the ice to show where they are at. I also agree that considering what the Sabres did not do as it pertains to Free Agency may make this camp seem like not a big deal considering many of these prospects will not take the ice at HSBC any time soon. However, I do not agree... that this camp is truly a big deal. The reason being that even though the Sabres have many of they're own picks on the current roster, the players that impacted this team during our greatest success were acquired via trades. If you look at the current Sabres who are free agents(Afinogenov, Moore, & Peters to name a few), as well as ex-Sabres who are free agents(Kotalik,Biron,Mckee). 8 days in and they are all available. So...

Pirates?
Looking at the way Tom C runs his businesses i have concluded the Sabres have become the Pittsburg Pirates of the NHL,developing talent then trading them just as they bloosom into servicable players and have value to other teams.Great idea Pirates! Thanks a bunch!
07/09/2009 6:28AM
Pirates?
Sorry, trading was the wrong word to use.Should have used losing. My mistake.
07/09/2009 8:31AM
Sabres...
They are in a rebuilding period. They lost key players (Drury and Briere), but I have faith with the cap going down that the Sabres will be in better shape then other teams and can work an advantageous trade with teams that need to dump salary. Also I have no clue how Chicago intends to sign Toews and Kane next year. I'd rather be in the place the Sabres are going then watch potential young stars like that walk out of the city....
07/09/2009 8:57AM
Enough...Darcy
Buffalo sports fans deserve better than this, Rivet last year, Montonour this year (watch Darcy names him Asst. Captain). THe Bills threw the fans a bone with TO, the Sabres just don't care about the fans or winning....plain and simple!
07/09/2009 9:01AM
WGR..where is the outrage?
You have no problem getting on the Bills/Jauron, but when it comes to Darcy & Co. mum is the word? Schoop needs to stop kissing a** and start asking real questions
07/09/2009 9:09AM
It's Amazing
Miss the playoffs for a few years and everyone hates Darcy. Where were all these critics when they won the president's trophy and went to the playoffs 2 years in a row? Darcy has drafted Miller, Vanek, Campbell, Gaustad, Kaleta, Pominville, Roy and traded for Briere and Drury. The guy is a good GM, maybe if Larry Quinn loosened the purse strings Darcy would be a Great GM.
07/09/2009 9:14AM
Funny
I want a stanley Cup! Look to Toronto for a real GM, Burke wants to win and he haass made that team tougher in a few months. Darcy has not even come close to making this team tough. He has built this team just like him, soft. The fans deserve better than this, yea he traded for Drury and Briere, but Don Luce was a bigger part than that, than you think. Ok, why did he let them both walk (Drury/Briere), and good GM takes care of that before it comes to a head? Please I could go on and on with this guy, give me Rick Dudley..NOW!
07/09/2009 9:16AM
Speak up than, dont be a YES man than?
Darcy should speak up than, if Quinn is pulling the puppet strings.
07/09/2009 9:34AM
RE: Sabres...
Well put. What people on here can't seem to figure out, or just want to omit, is the fact that this team took a shot at the cup and we're still paying for it this year. Waiting for contracts to expire like Tallinder and Lydman, last year it was Kotalik and Afinogenov. It's going to be interesting how teams will try to shed salary next year, possibly even without the cap dropping. It's often the same old argument here in Buff. The minute any young player signs, they are "overpaid" and as soon as they leave they are considered as "the one that got away". People keep saying that they did nothing in Free Agency, and it's just not true. They stopped Miller and Pominville both from heading to July 1, paying around $50 mil to make that happen. So much for being "cheap" and just "developing talent".
07/09/2009 9:39AM
.....
Burke can spend to the cap, he has no worries about ownership. Darcy has done a tremendous job with what has been giving to him. Dudley would resign after 2 days once he experienced how things are ran in that organization.
07/09/2009 10:03AM
The last 2 post must be Schoop and J. White
Please, I have no time for this love fest with Darcy? He is a YES -MAN, I want to win now? Speaking of the run to the Cup 2-3 years gao, why didn't Darcy help the Defense?? During the Caroina series, we played the last couple games with the Rochester Defense? Please take it to the break room there at WGR!
07/09/2009 10:06AM
Nice
If its the Bills, WGR has no problem bashing them. Its about time people call out this station
07/09/2009 10:24AM
WGR HACKS
Yea those hacks sit there and think of every way to make the team seem they are on the right track...who cares of the team didnt go after gomez.. oh we would of made the finals if vanek and miller didnt get hurt...this team isnt cheap they spent 5 mill under the cap while everyone us spent up the cap..oh dominc moore and the tim connoly signing were the greatest trade deadline deals ever! lets ask quinn all easy fluff questions and talk about how amazing tom golisano is...hacks!!!
07/09/2009 10:38AM
Just because you sign free agents
Doesn't mean you will win a cup! Look at the Rangers, look at a lot of teams in the NHL. If you sign a high priced free agent its no guarantee you can win a cup. But keep those wishlists coming commenters on who to fire and who we should sign. Come up with stupid trades like Max and a draft pick for Crosby or Malkin, I am sure Pittsburgh would do that. Idiots.
07/09/2009 10:40AM
What???
Pens, tarde with Anaheim & NYI (Guerin) = Cup, enough said! Go back to the break room!
07/09/2009 10:41AM
That was a trade
Last time I checked I said signed a High priced free agent. Read before commenting.
07/09/2009 11:04AM
"Funny" this is for you
FORGET ABOUT BRIERE AND DRURY!" not mentioning they wanted to leave....it was like 2 years ago just drop it. Toronto hasn't won the cup since '64.
07/09/2009 11:09AM
fans
if all you are going to do is complain about what the sabres do and act like you no everything and poeople in the NHL supposedly don't, then just stop paying attention to the sabres, your most likely a ban wagon fan anyways
07/09/2009 11:10AM
toronto
at least theyre trying to this year
07/09/2009 11:12AM
oh yea?
so you're telling me the sabres aren't trying? they're just in the NHL to purposly get people like you angry at them?
07/09/2009 11:28AM
Re: Sabres...
You dump Tallinder next year, enters Tyler Myers if not this year. We have a great group of defenseman coming from draft picks. I like the tenacity out of Ennis, Gerbe, and Kennedy. Regier and Sabres Brass are planning for the salary cap to fall to 50 and they will have some great draft picks and have the core of the team together. Unfortunately Pomminville and Hecht had mediocre seasons and hopefully that resolves itself this upcoming season. The important part is that this team didn't win on talent alone, but on team chemistry. The year we won the president cup we were rolling 4 lines and that is how we did it. Now we have 3 decent lines like most teams. I will be patient this year to see something happen next year. Maybe also make a splash at Pat Kane or trade for a Patrick Sharp from Chicago next season. It could be worse, we could be the NY Islanders....
07/09/2009 1:32PM
wow V
i suck and won't add anymore comments because im a retard who doesnt know anything
07/09/2009 1:51PM
sabres
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
07/09/2009 1:52PM
I Hear Ya!!....but
I hear the complaints about the Sabres inactivity so far, and for the most part I think they are legit. The post that said we were the Pirates of the NHL might be frustratingly true. Yet, from a broader perspective Montador was not a bad pickup at all...but it seems bad now because he is the only action. Clearly he is not a major factor in putting the team in the playoffs...but he is a guy who would have lit into Scott Gomez for nailing Miller. He might lose 50% of his fights but he is a scrapper who will send a message. Don't you think Adam Mair would follow this new example? So he fills a need.
But if this is all that is to come...then we are in trouble.
BUT... We can't forget that Regier built a roster around the new rules several years ago...and that team won. Granted (and here is where the Bitchin is legit) he failed to adapt soon enough to the changing style...along with screwing up the free agent list...
I'm sure some will think I'm dreaming...but it could be that with the new size he has drafted...along with keeping Miller and others...he has finally seen the light.
Problem is it appears he is willing to wait for the youth to develop - and that is in itself a gamble.
So in the end...I'm one of those fence sitters who agrees with the doomsayers...but still would like to think there is a plan...if not hope (at least for this year)
07/09/2009 3:03PM
Sabre Fans On The Internet - Most Fickle Fanbase Ever?
You'd think the Sabres are at risk for moving out of town just because we've missed the playoffs two years in a row. Big deal. Buffalo internet sports fans are such headcases. Relax, other teams have done much worse in NHL history...would you want the current Sabres to be run the way the modern-day Coyotes and Kings are being run? Or what about the "dark ages" of the Harold Ballard era Toronto Maple Leafs?Take two deep breaths and relax, internet Sabre fans. What you're going through right now isn't all that bad. Yes, we still need to remove some dead weight from the team ASAP, but there's so much the team could build on with Kennedy/Gerbe/Kassian/Myers/Enroth/Ennis/Butler/Adam/Foligno. Relax!
07/09/2009 3:08PM
Worse
Last year we weren't good enough to make the playoffs. Had we not lost Miller and Vanek, we would have been a borderline playoff team and a likely first round exit. This off-season we have gotten worse, losing Spacek and gaining Montador. That's all you need to know. We weren't good enough before and we're worse now. If you're happy with that, good for you, but let's not act like the people complaining don't have legitimate complaints. The teams in our division are making improvements while we're treading water, at best. So Regier has started changing his philosophy on draft picks? That's great, but won't help us for another several years as those players work their way up to the big leagues. As usual, we're only a little bit behind the curve. Not good enough. This roster needs a shakeup and if it doesn't get one, it will be perfectly clear that this organization cares far more about the bottom line than wins and losses.
07/09/2009 3:18PM
why get excited?
I read these posts and everyone is fired up over nothing because the sabres are nothing. the hosts are "fans" and will always defend the team, it's managment and players. Meantime they just continue to suck and miss playoffs and be irrelevant. I don't worry about the shills who tell me how great LArry and Darcy are, the fact they are a losing organization makes those shills look like idiots. Keep wasting good money on a bad team, this team is a joke run by bigger jokes.
07/09/2009 3:20PM
WOW VI
Hey WOW V, you must be some shill from the sabres organization who spues out all the BS lines about how our young kids are the best in sports history and we would of made the playoffs if miller was in goal...notice the wgr hacks never mentioned we lose to crappy LA and terrible Islanders teams with or without miller, and im sure youll spue how FA is a joke and people get burned and how briere and drury suck now, and roy is the next lafontaine...keep drinking the kool-aid...im sure bob corkum is on the way...such hacks!
07/09/2009 4:58PM
Imbecile
WOW. What an imbecile. Shows an unreserved lack of hockey knowledge and an even poorer grasp of the english language.
07/10/2009 10:32AM
Just watch
watch us win the cup or go far in the playoffs and each of all of you who say terrible things that are just rediculous are going to be like " yea I always loved the sabres whooo hoooo!"
