Kotalik to the Rangers

Former Sabre forward Ales Kotalik has signed a 3-year deal with the N.Y. Rangers. The 30-year old was traded by Buffalo to Edmonton at last year's trading deadline in exchange for a 2nd round draft pick.

Kotalik scored 20 goals in 2008-09. He was originally drafted by the Sabres in the 6th round of the 1998 NHL draft.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN reports that the deal is worth $9 million.

Typical Blueskirt move...$9 mil for a moron.

Free money for Al.
Reports are saying this is 3 million per for a total of 9 mil. Despite the difference in playoff appearances the last two seasons, perhaps Glen Sather is a worse general manager than Regier. One of the few (perhaps only) to have that honor. I also count Gaborik as a blunder. Unless his plan was to pay him all that money for about 35 games this year. If so, I'd say Sather's in good shape.

3 years!!!!!
How in the world did He get 3 years out of the Rangers when at this point in free agency, you're seeing guys get only 1 or 2 year deals. I think Sather must be getting senile, first he gives an oft injured and not to mention a very uncoachable Gaborik and now Kotalik. All together now Ranger fans: FIREEEE SAAAATHER!!!

Stanley cup for Rangers
Great signing by the Rangers. This guy never got a fair shake from Lindy Ruff and now he will go to the Rangers and haunt the Sabres. All the Rangers need to do is to add Max and they'll be raising the cup. Can you imagine Kotalik, Max, Gaborik on the same line? I can, they'll light up the league.

Avoid Shootouts, Just Lose In Regulation
Sabres will go 0-4 vs. the Rangers no matter what, but avoid shootouts with Kotalik on the other side! Avoid the embarrassment. No one is worse than Regier as a general manager besides.

Sour grapes?
Why the hate on by Sabres fans? How many 20 goal scorers did you guys have last season? btw...There is a cap these days and it seems your ownership doesnt want to pony up.

RE: Sour Grapes
This management sucks. That's why. Opportunities are there to change this joke and nothing gets done. I hope last place is where this all goes next season. Hadn't had a #1 pick overall in a long, long, time in the draft! Regier is a joke! A resignationby him would make me want to have a party till 4 AM with loud music. I'll supply all the beer and food.

Cup for Rangers
Here's a guy i have penned in for 40 goals this season who the Sabres had to have back to maintain the integrity of the oranIzation. He was the heart and soul of this team that's why we missed the playoffs. FIRE REGEIR!

you idiots
you people bashing the sabres for letting him go and praising the rangers for signing him are probably the same morons that wanted kotalik outta here 2 years ago. buffalo, chock full o' idiots

Buffalo sports fans=biggest bunch of whiners
You people on here compalining about the Rangers signing Kotalik are some of the biggest idiots ever. You're probably the same ones that were calling him a soft euro. Let me also educate some of you. The Sabres traded him and got something for him instead of losing him for nothing. I guess Edmonton was brilliant in getting Kotalik for 2 months and not making the playoffs and now losing him for nothing. Keep up the self contradicting double standard too.

RE:Sour Grapes
Yes there is a cap these days but you already know that they have 48 mil commited to the cap with Stafford and Sekera to sign. But let me guess you're fine with going right to it and then when you get hit by injuries, you can become Calgary the last 2 weeks of the regular season where they had to play with 15 skaters cause they cappd themselves out and injuries happened and couldn't call up any replacement and it cost them not only their division but probably wore them down and they lost in the 1st round. Chicago is next, they're already over and now have to get rid of someone who can help them. But of course you know more than anyone else, right idiot.

WOW
Now I've seen it all- are we actually bashing Darcy for not signing Kotalik?!?!?! This contract is a TERRIBLE deal for the Rangers - Kotalik brings a wicked shot to the point but he is a no-show for 15 games at a time.... They basically paid 3 mil for ashootout specialist. I can't wait till you loonies come on her crying that we missed the boat again when Afenigenov finally signs somewhere.

Al will be missed
Here's another of the long line of Sabre mistakes. In Kotalik, here's a guy with good size, grit, and toughness and not to mention a guy who can score. He's also a player who was showing signs of being a leader and let's face it the Sabres were a better team with him in the lineup. Now expect the Sabres to be out of layoff contention by November and the Rangers to rule the Eastern conference with a iron fist.

RE:Al will be missed
Dude, you might want to stay off the crackpipe for awhile. The words Kotalik, grit, toughness, being a leader is laughable. Also, the Rangers ruling the East with an iron fist? Okay.
