Bills Fall to Texans at Home 31-10

The Buffalo Bills couldn’t stop Ryan Moats and the Houston Texans Sunday afternoon, as they fell to the Texans 31-10 and drop to a 3-5 record.

Ryan Moats starred for the Texans, running 23 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns.  The running back came in as relief to Steve Slaton, who was benched after he fumbled earlier in the game.

The Bills started the game off on the right foot.  Earlier in the first quarter, Jairus Byrd picked off his sixth pass in just four games to tie him with New Orleans safety Darren Sharper for the league lead. Matt Schaub vastly overthrew his receiver and Byrd made a diving play at the pass to pick it off and give the Bills possession. Byrd is the first rookie to pick off a pass in four consecutive games since Orlando Thomas did it for Minnesota in 1995.

Jairus Byrd continued to take over football games for the Buffalo Bills by forcing turnovers. His second interception of the game came off a tipped pass, which gave him the league lead in interceptions with seven on the season. It's Byrd's third consecutive game with two interceptions. He's the first player since 1960 to have three consecutive multiple interception games. The Bills took over at Houston's 29-yard line.

It was only a matter of time before all the turnovers led to points for the Buffalo Bills. Terrell Owens got the ball on a reverse, got a block from Lee Evans and sprung the play up the sideline to put the Bills on top. A 29-yard run for Owens put the Bills up 7-0.

The Texans finally got on the board early in the second quarter, thanks to a 42-yard field goal from kicker Kris Brown.
Buffalo still had the lead 7-3

A drive starting on their own ten yard line was engineered all the way down to the Buffalo five yard line, but Buffalo's defense held the surging Texans to a Field Goal. A 22-yarder by Kris Brown put the Texans within one point of tying the game.

A 71-yard kickoff return by Fred Jackson set the Bills up with good field position, but they couldn't put it in the end zone. Rian Lindell hit a 21-yard field goal to push the advantage 10-6.

In the middle of the third quarter, Houston marched down the field 72-yards, but were held to another field goal by the Buffalo Bills.  This put the Texans within one-point of the Bills.

But as the game went on, the Bills defense started to wear down.  The Houston Texans finally got one in for six, when Ryan Moats turned an inside run up the field and scores from 11 yards out to give Houston the lead. The Texans then went for two, and Matt Schaub found Andre Johnson in the back of the end zone to go up by seven.
17-10 Houston.

The Texans then took total control of this one thanks to the running of Ryan Moats. The running back scored his second touchdown of the day to give Houston a commanding lead over Buffalo 24-10.

The Texans put the nail in the coffin towards the end of the game, when Ryan Moats ran in for his third touchdown with 3:34 left.  On the Bills final offensive drive, Brian Cushing picked up off Ryan Fitzpatrick that sealed the deal for Houston.  Houston went on to win the game 31-10, giving them great momentum for their toucgh matchup next week with Indianapolis.

Fitzpatrick fell back to earth in this game, as he struggled completing 15 of his 23 passes for 117 yards and two interceptions.  A bright spot for the Bills offense was the play of Terrell Owens.  Owens caught five passes for 39 yards, and also scored a touchdown on 29-yard reverse in the first quarter.

Buffalo lost more than the game, as Jairus Byrd suffered a groin injury, as did Aaron Schobel.  Keith Ellison also left the game with a quad injury, while tackle Jamon Meredith sprained his ACL.

The Bills have a bye next week, but will have a chance to redeem themselves in week 10 against the Tennessee Titans.  For the latest Bills news, stay tuned to WGR sports radio 550.

11/01/2009 4:28PM
Yes, anybody but Trent!
Giving Gibran a chance would be the classiest move the Bills could make at this point.

Those wins they had meant nothing, knew it all along, season over.
11/01/2009 4:33PM
It's over
Those wins meant nothing, knew it all along. I'd still go with Fitz since everyone has a bad game, let him goof up at least one more. All in all, season over, just like I thought from the beginning.

SAD, SO SAD
I hope the team loses until the owner is long gone, litterally. The problem is the owner. This team has a pathetic history with the exception of the Bill polian built teams. And Ralph ran him out of town.
11/01/2009 4:55PM
Seriously
Who are the morons that still go to Bills games. What are you Cheering for? For them to be like the Lions?

RE: Canuck
Buffalo Biulls fans are sad. Once the Bills move to Toronto - they will have a new owner and an entire new front office. High quality coaches and etc. They will eventually win the super bowl - all because you dumb fans reward bad behavior by supportigpathetic teams. It's like a tax on welfare stricken people.
11/01/2009 9:15PM
HA HA Buffalo!!
Would any of you admit you're a bills fan? Ha ha ha you would get laughed at!
11/01/2009 9:18PM
RE: HA HA Buffalo!
Correction: we would only get laughed at if we were a Bills fan FROM CANADA.
11/01/2009 9:26PM
Sums it up
Senile old owner, clueless GM, Incompetent scouting team, Dumb head coach without a pair, Child-like offensive coordinator, Defensive coordinator who doesn’t have a pair, QB that looks like a dumb deer caught in the head lights – without a throwing arm, Manly women on the O-line, Swiss cheese D-line, And useless $15 million WRs to-boot
11/01/2009 9:30PM
RE: HA HA Buffalo!
And you keep supporting politicians who want to tax you to hell - killing your economy - but you think you should keep the Bills - ha ha ha ha ha - what a joke
11/01/2009 9:36PM
True
Bills fans support a loser team to no end - and they suppor horrible polititians that have destroyed the buffalo area. These people are to blaim - and do not dsearve the team.

Grammar
Wow...apparently the spelling in Canada is as good as their health care. Go back to 1st grade and learn how to spell...if your going to bring it at least be able to spell so we BUFFALO BILLS fans can understand you!!!

RE: Grammar
The Canadian Government spent so much on universal health care they don't have enough $$$ left over to give spellcheck to the masses.

What's the BEST plan at Quarterback?
Trade for Donovan McNabb, even if it means moving out of the 9th spot.
Use the 9th pick, or move to get one of the top QBs (Clausen, Bradford)
Tim Tebow, wherever you can get him.
Derek Anderson, or Jake Delhomme, or another low level UFA
Stick with the guys they have for now. Build up elsewhere.
