Through the first month of the season, the Sabres might have the best player in the NHL.Goalie Ryan Miller is playing at a Vezina clip.So far, he has posted the league’s best saves percentage.
Prior to Friday’s game against Philadelphia, Buffalo’s GM visited with Schopp and the Bulldog.Darcy Regier was asked about the depth behind Miller.Does he expect the backup goaltending situation to be a problem area again this year?
“Ryan Miller has to expect to play the bulk of the games.I think that between Lalime and Enroth, they will get the job done…When I saw Enroth in the [AHL] playoffs he was nothing short of outstanding.Jonas is a very capable up-and-coming goaltender.”
So Regier doesn’t seem worried about Miller’s understudies.The thought was acquiring one through trade didn’t seem to interest him.It comes from his faith in Patrick Lalime.
“He will be fine.I still believe that. His injury is a short-term situation.”
But Lalime has had groin injuries before.Last year it hampered him.He finished the year with a 5-13-3 record.
Darcy addressed the flu pandemic that seems to be affecting every NHL team.He credited the Sabres medical staff for staying on top of things.Paul Gaustad and Patrick Kaleta have missed games because of illness.The team wouldn’t say if it was of the swine variety.
