Ennis touches down in Philly. Lydman getting closer
Tyler Ennis landed in Philadelphia at 5:05 as he will play his first NHL game tonight. Drew Stafford is out with a hip flexor. Lindy Ruff hasn't made a final decision, but he's thinking of moving Tim Connolly to wing. Ennis had two assists in Portland's 6-3 win over Rochester in Buffalo on Thursday. Overall he has six goals and seven assists in 16 games. Ennis was taken in the first round of the 2008 draft which is the same year Tyler Myers was taken. He was 26th overall and just turned 20 years old.
Lindy Ruff was not at the morning skate. Ryan Miller was there but did a little off ice work and will start tonight vs Philadelphia. Against the Flyers Miller is 7-6-1 with a 2.91 goals against and .903 save percentage. Patrick Lalime said he's hoping to get a start next Saturday in Ottawa.
The Flyers have been red hot lately winning five straight behind Ray Emery. Emery has been better lately allowing just seven goals in those eight games. Career wise Emery is 11-4-1 vs Buffalo with a 3.08 goals against and .907 save percentage. The winning streak hasn't done much for Philly in the standings and its now 5th in the East with 21 points. Buffalo has taken four of four points this week so any points tonight would just be a bonus after a superior effort last night beating Calgary in a shootout 2-1. The Sabres 23 points still leads the Northeast Division by four over Boston. Buffalo has two games in hand.
Former Sabres captain Daniel Briere returned to the Flyers line up Thursday after missing four games with a groin injury. He scored two goals. Simon Gagne is out for months after surgery. Defenseman Braydon Coburn has been hot offensively lately scoring three goals and two assists in six games. Jeff Carter has seven points in five games. Mike Richards has only scored goals in one of his last ten games. Rookie James van Riemsdyk has 12 points in 10 games.
Tim Connolly and Derek Roy have been Buffalo's hottest players other than Ryan Miller. Connolly has 13 points in 12 games while Roy has goals in four of five games. He also scored in last night's shootout.
Toni Lydman said today that his groin is finally starting to feel better and he thinks he'll be able to play at some point this coming week. He said the problem has been doing everything at full speed.
Mike Grier was very careful with the way he skated today. He too thinks he has a chance for this week, but by the looks of it, he might need longer.
