(WGR 550) -- Prolific college passer and Green Bay practice squad quarterback Brian Brohm is now a member of the Buffalo Bills active roster. The Bills have parted ways with longtime third-string quarterback Gibran Hamdan.
Brohm was a second-round pick, 56th overall, of the Packers in 2008 after a prolific career at Louisville where he was briefly considered a threat to be the No. 1 overall pick. He threw 70 touchdowns and just 24 picks in his four years at Louisville, and was the 2007 Orange Bowl. He is 6'4" and turned 24 in September.
Brohm has a couple Buffalo connections: Jamon Meredith was on the Packers practice squad, while Eric Wood was his center for a couple years at Louisville.
i sense the bills going in a new direction already and it is about time
11/19/2009 7:01AM
Can he start Sunday??
I betcha he can beat a QB rating of 0!
11/19/2009 7:02AM
Brohm signs
Do we really think this is the answer for or QB woes?
11/19/2009 7:12AM
GET HIM READY TO START ASAP!!!
This guy to me is immediately on par if not better than the QB's on the Bills roster. Get him ready to play asap!!!
11/19/2009 7:24AM
I AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
get him ready to play so when you get shanahan,he's got something to work with.
11/19/2009 7:43AM
a step in the right direction
Finally a qb with a cannon for a arm. This guy is a competitor, was stuck behind Rodgers and a certain guy named Favre, who was playing games with Pack. They drafted him high for a reason.Good pickup for buffalo, lets see where this goes now.
11/19/2009 8:08AM
What?
He was the Orange bowl? Never knew that!
11/19/2009 8:38AM
Finally.
An excellent way to lure in a high-caliber coach, and quickly! Give him a great young QB to develop! Thanks for everything, Trent... but Brian, welcome to Buffalo!!!!!
11/19/2009 8:46AM
DOWNFIELD!!!
This boy can huck the ball downfield with accuracy and is very proven. He must need some NFL work though, or he wouldn't be a practice squader. If this is the guy they think can be their man, I really hope this guy works out. I, personally wouldstill like to see Vick in a Bills uniform.
11/19/2009 8:49AM
Really?
REALLY? a practice sauad quarterback? This is not exactly cleaning house.
11/19/2009 8:51AM
on par
ok brohm may be on par with our garbage qbs but what does that say? definatly get him playing asap because fitz aint it. neither is treadwards. i wouldnt put too much stock into this guy but hey what have we got to lose?
11/19/2009 9:12AM
No silly...
He was the 2007 Orange Bowl....
11/19/2009 9:16AM
Did they?
Did they have to drop anyone to pick him up? This signing had better not stop them from drafting a QB with their 1st round draft pick. This draft is LOADED with quality quarterbacks. They need to draft one without a doubt.
11/19/2009 9:19AM
how soon
can he start?
11/19/2009 9:36AM
never played behind Favre
If your going to make big bold statements, know your facts - Favre was never a Packer with this guy so I'm pretty sure he wasn't "stuck" behind Favre. They drafted him high for a reason, and then they put him on the practice squadfor a reason... lookd like a desperation reach to me
11/19/2009 10:18AM
goodbye trent?
They may be doing this to cut trent.
11/19/2009 10:29AM
Bills Cutting Edwards
This is the beginning of the end for Trent, look for him to be cut in the next 2 weeks
11/19/2009 10:41AM
nothing to lose by this move..
Lets play him and see what hes got. With several games left this season,we have to play him and give him every chance to prove his worth. Who the hell knows, could be the Diamond in the rough the Bills finally NEED? PLEASE PLAY HIM! Dont waste this opportunity.......
11/19/2009 10:47AM
carbon copy
this guy is a carbon copy of edwards - start hamden!
11/19/2009 11:16AM
Ya never know..
I bet J.P. is laughing drinking his $1 daiquiri's on the Vegas strip.
11/19/2009 11:28AM
Brohm? Really
There is a REASON this guy is on practice squad.
11/19/2009 12:18PM
Garcia? or Grossman?
Either of those two would have been better.
11/19/2009 12:21PM
Know your facts!
Brohm was considered a 1st round caliber player in LAST YEAR's draft. It was only with Aaron Rodgers breaking out that Brohm never got a chance to play in Green Bay. This signing reminds me of the Packers trading with Atlanta back in '92 for Favre. Give the kid a chance - he's worlds better than Edwards could ever dream to be.
11/19/2009 12:31PM
So gay
Hamdan is better. What is the point of this stupidity!
11/19/2009 12:55PM
Sunday?
Can he play this Sunday? Please....?
11/19/2009 1:01PM
yes there is a reason
because green bay elected to only have 2 QBs on the depth chart to make way for an additional defender. the point is that this kid might actually have an NFL career. Hamden is a career 3d stringer and will never see the light of a regular season game.
11/19/2009 1:09PM
Hamdam
Hamdam was released. So all of you complaining should read the article or shut your mouths.
11/19/2009 1:27PM
Yes Virginia Maybe there is a santa claus
Bills owner tells AP big changes could be coming--- with this one statement Ralph has quited the fans, now we will accept the future loses and most important buy tickets. Is this just a red herring, put out there to mollify the masses? he said that greatthings are coming. I fell for that last November and am a little leery don't you know.
11/19/2009 1:53PM
FOOTBALL GODS
the footballl gods are smiling on us, they have given us the next farve
11/19/2009 1:58PM
Stuck behind Favre?
Iam not doubting you for a min,but wasn`t Favre still on the Packers roster in April of 2008? then signed with the jets b4 the opener of that yr.Not argueing, but i thought that was the situation.
11/19/2009 2:01PM
relax people...
Some of you are seriously complaining about this move? RELAX! They more than likely signed Brohm to see if they can develop him into the star he was touted as coming out of college... If it doesn't pan out, oh well. It's very doubtful theyplan on him being our only option as QB of the future.
11/19/2009 2:58PM
QB of the future ...
is now here! We can cut the other three and move on ... yay!! Of course we could have traded for Derek Anderson and it would have been an improvement over what we have now.
11/19/2009 2:59PM
Check Down
He also has a bad habit of checking the ball down.
11/19/2009 3:44PM
Hamden?
For some strange reason, it seemms that Hamden might end up being the the lucky one. Every time the Bills throw away a player without good reason, he ends up with a winning team or a Superbowl Ring. Ralph should have given the guy a chance....oh well.
11/19/2009 4:07PM
Weak Arm
Everything I've read about the guy says that he checks down, has a weak arm, and has little confidence.
11/19/2009 4:15PM
play Brohm
we've seen what edwards and fitzpatrick can do (or i should say can't do, and thats win) treat this like a 7 game preseason and see what we have lined up for next year. they offically threw in the towel this week. let's get this right now, so that we don't have the same conversation next year. Brohm is still very green behind the ears and can be molded to whatever coach's liking. there is nothing to lose this season.
11/19/2009 6:03PM
How will we use him?
I am very interested to see how the Bills use him. Is he just going to be a 2nd or 3rd stringer or do we have plans to develop this guy. Could be interesting if nothing else.
11/19/2009 6:14PM
Umm guys
Relax. It's not like Peyton Manning was available. It's a depth move.
11/19/2009 9:11PM
Good move
I like yhtis move, the kid is still young and it is worth a shot...but they need to get him in there and see what he's got
11/19/2009 11:49PM
Re: So gay
How the hell can you possibly know Hamdan is better than Brohm without seeing Hamdan in anything other than a preseason game?
11/19/2009 11:50PM
Re: Weak Arm
That's Trent you read about
11/20/2009 12:36AM
he's got a cannon
His arm is huge how do you think he threw for so many Td's in college the kids got tallent bring in bill cohwer and mike vick and ill keep gettin season tickets even if they dont win at least theyll be entertaining
11/20/2009 5:33AM
This is why you never know
Brett Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round, 33rd overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. Atlanta coach Jerry Glanville did not approve of the drafting of Favre, saying it would take a plane crash for him to put Favre into the game.Favre's first pass in an NFL regular season game resulted in an interception returned for a touchdown. He only attempted four passes in his career at Atlanta, was intercepted twice, and completed none of them.
