(WGR 550) -- The NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora has been at the source of several stories regarding the Bills coaching search, so it was only natural to ask him to join The Howard Simon Show for a Tuesday morning segment.
Saying he's "still not sure they land a big fish" despite reporting that Ralph Wilson is willing to spend upwards of $10 million to do so, LaCanfora ruled our Jon Gruden ("locked into ESPN for 2010"), Mike Holmgren ("Don't see that one at all"), and Tony Dungy ("adamant no coaching in any capacity in 2010").
He said Bills fans shouldn't be worried about how quickly a hire does or doesn't happen for the near future, and that guys like Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher will wait to see the landscape of available jobs, post-season, noting that Dallas, Washington, Houston and Chicago could have openings.
Earlier, ESPN's John Clayton reported that Cowher wasn't interested in Buffalo right now. LaCanfora said that's not necessarily a dismissal.
"It's more just a sort of extension of where Coach Cowher is coming from in terms of having a commitment to honor right now at CBS," LaCanfora said. "He doesn't want to become a part of a coaching search while guys like Perry Fewell are trying to make a statement."
LaCanfora said that if "the Bills are still looking in 2-3 months," Cowher would sit down and talk, but he doesn't know if it's at the top of the former Steelers boss' list.
