Brohm To Start; Byrd to IR

nick@wgr550.com

Orchard Park (WGR 550)  -- The word from the lockeroom after Bills practice was that Brian Brohm will be the starting quarterback in Atlanta, and the comments from Evans, Owens and Brohm himself hinted strongly at that as well. Ryan Fitzpatrick did not practice, but Perry Fewell would not rule Fitzpatrick out, saying, "Ryan is our starter." Gibran Hamdan met with the media before that in the locker room and said, "Brian is the starter" for Sunday. Fewell just said, "It'll be Ryan or Brian."

Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt only paid attention to Brohm warming up. Brohm had a mixed day from what we saw, making a lot of good throws but bouncing a couple as well.

The wonder year of rookie Jairus Byrd is over with an injury related to the sports hernia surgery he had in the offseason. Byrd said he hasn't felt any better than 70 percent during his record-breaking campaign, and will have more surgery on Monday. The rookie said it caused him great pain to run at full speed or jump.

Taking Byrd's spot on the 53-man roster is linebacker Josh Stamer, while training camp cut linebacker Ryan Manalac is also back with the team. Stamer said he's already went to the wrong locker several times.

Stamer spent five years with the Bills before leaving for a season in Tennessee and Cleveland. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent signing of the Giants in 2001. He's played in 88 games. Those with Stamer jerseys will be displeased to know he is know wearing No. 50 instead of No. 57, the digits worn by Jon Corto.

Manalac played his college ball with new UB head coach Jeff Quinn at Cincinnati. He will wear No. 96.

The 2009 Bills have now placed 18 players on injured reserve.

Wilson's Cheap ways
20 guys on IR! Do we even have a sports fitness department. Its beyond coincidence that another player goes down. When you work on the cheap, low-ball your hires, and expect even less you get the full effect of the Wilson NFL experience. This goes right in line with his minimum wage standard salary director John Guy and his part time fisherman/talent director Tom Modrak. Ralphie this game, this city, this business has all passed you buy. You got your sympathy yellow jacket now just put it on and walk away.

stamer
what purpose does stamer serve we have enough special teamers

Go Brohm
Can we please have this guy be our Christmas gift. Other teams find quarterbacks from less likely places (i.e. Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme, tom Brady) Ok, so he probably, almost certainly, won't be Tom Brady but come on it's Christmas. After all, he is the highest drafted QB on the roster. Has Byrd played enough games to be Rookie of the Year? Did he do enough to be out Cushing in Houston?

I haven't heard any talk of this but the Bills need to look at t new Strength and Conditioning coach. Since Rusty Jones has left, this has been a team FULL of injuries!!!

what else
what else is going to happen this year!?!?! edwards, fitz, now brohm, we are a such a joke at the QB position

No Depth in Budget
Ryan or Brian how about Dancer or Prancer? Its always a depth issue with Ralphs budget. What, we couldn't break our part time Talent Recruiter Tom Modrak away from one of his foshing Trips in Florida to find us an experienced veteran backup?

Another Ralphie Blunder...
Wilson let Rusty Jones walk when Jones asked for more money. After 20 years of service the Bills didn't feel he merited it. Rusty Jones has been awarded as top NFL on many occasions. Ruben Brown raved about Jones and pushed for the Bears to grab him.

DRAFT NFL SIZED PLAYERS!!!!
The culmination of 10 years of BAD DRAFTING and owner senility is the INJURY CANCER the Bills now enjoy. This is just another manifestation of Wilson's inevitable ACUTE progression inot total senility over the last 10 years. Part of the RESTORATION of the Bills should include a RULE NEVER TO BE BROKEN AGAIN: "DON'T EVER DRAFT SMALL, INJURY PRONE, SLOW HEALING PLAYERS!!!! EVER EVER AGAIN!!! Think of the STIFFS who never would have been here: Schobel, Denny, Kelsay, Ellison, Parrish, Edwards, the entire offensive line, I could go on forever... 10 years of TERRIBLE DRAFTS!!! I'm going on IR just thinking about it!

josh stamer???
someone in the front office really thinks this guy is a quality player. Wasn't there a time where coy wire filled in as a back up linebacker and stamer couldn't get off bobby april's sprint team?!?! What a joke, we'll never have any quality back ups if we keep trying to keep these bums off the unemployment line

Brian Brohm
My brother inlaw is from the green bay area and said we are in for a big surprize with Brohm he said your going to be screaming for trent or ryan to get back in there Brian Brohm is a total draft bust he dosent have any athletic ability wake up buffalo and you will when you see him play

18 players on IR is REDICULOUS!!!
Bring back RUSTY JONES. That guy was amazing during his tenure with Buffalo and is doing a hell of a job in Chicago now. This guy we have now obviously has no clue

BRING BACK RUSTY JONES!!!
That is all
12/23/2009 8:50PM
Rusty Jones
If memory serves, Rusty Jones was forced out by Gregg Williams--he had a friend who he wanted to have as strength and conditioning coach and brought him in instead of Jones. I think this was according to Paul Hamilton, if I remember correctly.

And don't forget, there are still 2 games remaining! I guess there won't be any need for the IR after Indy though...
