Manziel buzz building: Jaguars at 3?

One of the most intriguing parts of the 2014 NFL Draft is trying to figure out where and when Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will be drafted.

Without a doubt, he is the most polarizing player in the draft. Some people believe in him to potentially become the next big thing in the NFL, while others wouldn't even go near him. All the former Heisman Trophy winner needs though is for one team to think of him as their guy.

When that happens, Johnny Football fever will be in full swing around the NFL. On Tuesday afternoon, the Manziel-to-Browns train that had been previously been gaining steam came to an abrupt and complete halt.
Glazer is one of the most connected reporters in the country and doesn't miss on stories all that often. Previously, Vic Tafur of The San Francisco Chronicle said the Oakland Raiders weren't interested in taking any of the quarterbacks at fifth overall. And, it doesn't appear Houston is interested in using the first overall pick on Manziel.

So, if you're to believe all stories, that rules out the last two selections of the the top five. NFL.com's Gil Brandt, often referred to as "The Godfather" of the draft, predicted that Manziel would be selected in the top five of the draft. That leaves two spots open, St. Louis at two and Jacksonville at three, which leads us to our next and newest hot draft rumor.
It's fair to point out that everything put out there at this point in the process should be taken with a grain of salt. So, in the interest of fairness, let's examine why this both could and could not be true.

If it were to be true, it would make sense based on the way the Jacksonville Jaguars are building their roster. They hired a coach from the NFC West and are building their team in many of the same ways. Pressure on defense, bigger cornerbacks, a strong offensive line. All they need is a quarterback that can turn into a weapon when they need him to be. That would fit the Manziel mold, and he might be just what the outside-the-box thinking Gus Bradley would want.

On the flip side, this might not be true because the St. Louis Rams might be attempting to manipulate a team into trading up to second overall to select Manziel. There have been some rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are considering it, but perhaps they needed an extra push. Last year, the threat of the New York Jets taking Tavon Austin was too much for the Rams to handle so they moved up ahead of them to select the wide receiver.

The same way the Rams were manipulated, they could be trying to do the same to some team but putting this 'new' information out there. Manziel and the Jaguars would make a lot of sense, but they've been rumored to wanting to play it safe in this draft.

Regardless of who drafts Manziel, him going in the top five can greatly benefit the Buffalo Bills. That likely pushes Sammy Watkins down the draft order into range where it would make sense for the team to move up and make him a key piece to their offense. At the very least, it affords them the opportunity to potentially trade up for his services wihtout surrendering future selections.

How will it all unfold? We'll find out in one day.
